Run to the Sea

LOAD: 800

50k @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3-7)

I’ve heard great things about this race. Most definitely a race of two halfs. Steadily downhill for 15 miles then the hills come out to play. So despite how good you feel at first, keep it easy and save the energy for the climbs. VIEW ROUTE!!

First half should feel easy. But it’s important to keep the pace sensible to save your energy for the hills. When they arrive don’t worry about walking them as some of them look brutal. Take your time, enjoy the day and just have a great run. It’s nice to do a race where you’re not chasing times or paces. In fact ignoring the watch completely would be a pretty good strategy. The only reason to look at it would be to make sure you’re not going too fast in the first 15 miles. Very best of luck Tina. I hope you have a fantastic time.

Well that was an experience! I wouldn’t say the first 15 are downhill but they are flatter but when you hit the hills…. They are savage and brutal. Stunning scenery and very well managed race. I definitely enjoyed it more than Brighton marathon. I thought it would take me longer. I was anticipating at least 7 and a half hours so was pleased to get in under 7. I would have liked 6.30/45 but just had nothing left to give after 27. My knee held up which was great as I was so worried about that. And although I’m tired, it was a 4.30am start, my body feels good so the training must have done something right? Thank you for your support. If you’ll have me I’m sure I will do another plan but think I just need a little break from training runs. I don’t want to lose the enjoyment. Overall I’m proud of myself for having achieved this!

You’re an ultra runner. This is fantastic. And from the sounds of it you didn’t find it horrific which suggests you both paced it well and you were prepared. That’s so pleasing to hear. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it as well. It is a very tough race in that 2nd half from what I’ve been told and walking those hills is inevitable. I think you’ve been on a training plan for a long time now, so a break is a really good idea at this moment in time and gives you a mental break as well. Keep ticking over with the running and I’m sure I’ll see you out on the seafront in the new few months.
