Rye Ancient Trails 30K

LOAD: 85

5 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

30K @ Target Pace (RPE: 4-8)

Such a fantastic event on some beautiful trails. Your pace will be determined by your goals and whether you are racing or treating it as an easy run. Training pts will also vary depending on your pace goals. Good luck.

I was really happy with that today. I had zero expectations just to finish. I got stuck in the bottle nose at the first stile. I’d been warned about it so thought I started far enough forward but I was wrong. So mile 2 is my slowest by quite a long way. I did find the first 10k tough. It was hotter than I thought so kept over heating. Every water stop I chucked a couple of cups over my head and it really helped. My heart rate seemed high too for the effort. Eventually things settled down a bit I ran quite a lonely race and actually found the km where you head out and back on yourself a little demoralising as you could tell how much further you were behind people. I did spot Pete Heasman about a km in front of me so all the way back I just kept saying to myself ‘just get to Pete’ caught him at the waterstop with about 11k to go so told him I was sticking with him but ended up leaving a small pack through the woods and felt I couldn’t stop as everyone behind me would have to stop too so hadn’t realised I’d lost Pete off the back! He told me off but congratulated how strong I looked at the end 😂 I found the last few Km really tough. Everything hurt. But I told myself not the let the people behind me catch me and just keep going. When I got to the gates and heard the HR gang I got exactly the boost I needed to push to the end! Really enjoyable rave and hopefully back next year much stronger. 3rd HR female home so really chuffed with that!!!

Absolutely fantastic, so pleased you enjoyed it and ran a strong race. You smashed it Alice. I wouldn’t worry about it being tough. After all it was 19 miles, lots of hills, tricky underfoot conditions and quite warm to start with. It was always going to be tough, especially on the legs towards the end. But you came through with flying colours and sounds like you were mentally very positive too. Hopefully this comment helps, but yesterdays race was harder than my 50k last year. Simply because I ran quicker yesterday than in the ultra. So if you pace the Ultra right, that extra distance shouldn’t be daunting. And this was perfect training for that event. Thank Dex from me as I know he gave up the good morning for golfing to let you run this.
