The Amble

LOAD: 74

Up to 40km @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Love this. Around 40km from Ditchling Beacon to Hampden Park on the South Downs Way. Well signposted. Depending on where you’re at with your training this is most likely to be a walk/run, especially up some of the hills. If you do struggle just hop on the bus for a leg.

The fact I’m looking forward to this so much suggests perhaps I should be doing more long distance trail running. The thought of being out on the trails for most of the day really excites me. Jax not so much. 🤦‍♂️

What a lovely day! Great to get more time to chat to you Simon, and friendly vibes all round as usual. Views were so epic and I was thrilled that my leg seemed to settle! Felt a little less exuberant than I would have done due to some slight nausea in second half. I also forgot that a hilly marathon is actually quite hard work! Only really found a couple of the hills hard, and the rest was fine- but felt pretty knackered in the evening which took me by surprise- I recovered from my unfinished RTTS in about an hour, but I suppose the heat forced me to walk a lot and the hills were minimal! I need to work on my mental attitude before my event… I need to find the radical acceptance of pain and discomfort that is so needed for ultras! Great to talk to Jake- what a lovely man! Hope you recovered well- you practically flew that run!

It was great to chat. A brilliant day out there. I think perhaps we just need to have a better plan pre race for the South Coast Challenge. Which hills are you going to run, which are you going to walk. How long will you spend at the aid stations for example. I had that all set out yesterday and there were times when I thought I could be running this hill or, don’t spend so long in the bus, but then I reminded myself that was the plan, so stick with it and it worked really well. I think having that approach before the South Coast Challenge would be smart and happy to put in that extra planning. I think you are definitely too critical of yourself. A lot of runners there yesterday, you were the 2nd one back (along with David) and not far behind me at all. I’m not suggesting it was a race, but just saying to remind you how good you are on the trails and not to compare yourself to those going that little bit quicker. Great work Anna and a perfect training run for your event coming up.
