Worthing 10K

LOAD: 410

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10km @ 10k Pace (RPE: 6-9)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

I used to love going down to the Worthing 10K every year. Always a fast route and well supported with lots of Brighton runners taken part. If the wind is gentle an excellent opportunity for a PB.

No pressure here, no targets, just see it as a way of measuring where your 10k fitness is at. And please don’t be disappointed, whatever the time, because we’ve not done any speedwork for a while now, because of the marathon, so expectations should be quite low. Very best of luck. I hope you have a great race.

Absolutely writing this one off! Had an awful week leading up to it for various reasons and was tired, hadn’t eaten properly and hip was hurting. Managed to stay with the 50 pacer for all of 2km. The worst I’ve felt on a run in a long time!

I think it’s important to remember how hard you worked to get to sub 50. So the only mistake was just being a little ambitious (if that counts as a mistake). The pace won’t be there after a marathon block because the training is so different. The time was actual decent given the build up. When I did my ultra and Beachy Head last year my 5k time dropped from 19:30 to over 21:00. I remember trying so hard at parkrun and coming in at 21 something. It was tough, but if you start doing the speed work again the pace will return. Remember. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You smashed the marathon remember!!
