SUMMARY 📝

Tough race. Don’t panic if your effort level is high early on, that’s the hills, it’s not all up. Try to maintain a consistent RPE throughout and hit the downhills too to make up time. The last km is great, so really dig deep and see how much below your average race pace you can go.

COACH SIMON NOTES 🍊

This is a challenging route with 9 hills to climb in just 10k. The total elevation is 155 metres. The first few kilometres are pretty much all up hill and you reach the highest point of the route around 3.8km. A nice downhill section (what goes up must come down) follows, but then a tough climb between km 6-7 awaits.

The comes a lovely final km. Shortly after you pass the 9km sign it’s pretty much downhill to the finish allowing you to produce a strong conclusion to your race.

This is a really well attended race and the support at the end from the crowd and early finishers is great. Plus the 11am start is appreciated among those that prefer a Sunday lie in.

As always try to pace yourself well from the start. It’s not really a race to try and run a 10k PB, so best treated as a strong training run.
