The Worthing 10k is an excellent event with a flat route providing a great opportunity to run a PB.
It’s a race I’ve entered several times before although I’m not 100% sure the route is the same when I took part. It started and finished on the prom, heading inland slightly, but generally there was very little elevation.
As with any seafront event the wind is often the biggest challenge but when you’re in a big field like this, it does provide more opportunity to tuck in behind someone and draft.
If you can get there nice and early to pick up your number, drop off your bag and get in a good warm up, that’s always advised. Make sure you get at least a few kilometres running, ideally with some dynamic stretches and running drills included.
Knowing your pace for a 10k race is very important and always be prepared to dig deep. I find the toughest kilometres can be 5-8 when it feels like you still have a long way to go and are already working very hard.
In those moments try and focus on staying relaxed and running with good posture. Those moments will soon pass and you’ll find yourself heading for the finish line.
Keep the mindset positive and use a mantra to help you through those tough spells. Very best of luck. The Worthing 10K is an excellent race and I really hope you achieve your goals.
