COACH

“Not quite good enough”? Your harsh. I think you did amazing given it was going to be a week off. In fact if anything I’d rather you had done a few less miles πŸ˜‚ In terms of this week, yes an extra rest day, but it’s important to understand why. It’s so you feel fresh going into Sunday’s session which is the key one. We want to put a lot of emphasis on hitting the paces in those sessions and to do that you want to be fresh. If you chucked in an extra 30-60 minute run which meant you rocked up Sunday tired and didn’t hit your splits, that 5th run then has a really negative effect on your progress. Yes it looks good on Strava cos you’ve run an extra 7 miles, but the truth being it’s set you back. I really believe in this approach and think it will deliver the best results. I’ve actually started reading a book about Leicester City’s title winning season and it’s something they introduced. It’s really interesting all the work they did behind the scenes to ensure the players were at their peak on match day. It seems they were training less than almost any other Premier League team at the time and ended up winning the title. That’s the logic for just 4 runs this week.
