Plan 5 – Week 20

100km! So chuffed with this!! Although I was pretty slow, I find it amazing how you can just keep going! I think your strategy of hill walking, plus using aid stations- really helped a lot. I only sat down at the Hove aid station (for all of 10 mins!) bt just mentally,  knowing I didn’t have to rush made a difference.  Obviously,  there are much better runners than me who can cover the ground faster, but for me it is the endurance challenge that appeals- just pushing myself to go further.  Plus, always, the time in nature. I can’t thank you enough for your support before and during the race. As I said, if you need any written endorsement or anything I’m happy to help! And although I had various pains on that pesky right leg (foot arch, achilles and weird shooting pains in lower leg!) the fact they didn’t stop me over 16.5 hours gives me so much confidence to ignore them! So, I will contact Maverick and change my distance in October to 50km, and just do it for fun.  (I think you thought 2 x 100km in 2 months was too much)… Then next year I need to think what to do next. 100miles is still my goal- but annoyingly there’s almost nothing between 100km and 100miles- which are actually 38 miles different!! I need a stepping stone… Anyway,  thanks again, x

COACH

Absolutely superb. So proud of what you achieved. I think you used the word slow in there, which is nonsense. I don’t want to hear that again please, because you were not slow at all. Jake’s comment on Strava summed it up perfectly and when he first did that race it took him 19 hours. What was most impressive about your run was how you were still going well at the end, that’s so rare over that distance when most people will be walking the last 20km +. It sounds like you had an amazing day and you brought the team together in a way I’ve yet to experience with all those messages which was a beautiful thing and almost made me want to have a little cry. So thank you, and for inspiring others. I’ll drop you a message about what next and we can have a sensible discussion.
