COACHES NOTES

By no means flat with just shy of 300 metres of elevation. Starting on the bridge crossing from Staten Island, you will need to take this easy, Miles 3-12 offer a much kinder section of the race as you take in Brooklyn. Just after the halfway stage you will Queensboro Bridge which is tough but offers outstanding views.

The crowds pick up as you enter Manhattan between Miles 16-18. It’s a flat wide section of the race and one to try and soak up the atmosphere. The crowd does tend to thin out around 20 miles in The Bronx but there is an entertainment zone to look forward to.

Fifth Avenue provides a challenge and you turn in Central Park at around mile 23. There are some hills in the final few miles but as you come out the park the crowd should see you home.

As with any marathon setting off at a sensible pace is key and making sure you are well prepared with a rehearsed fueling strategy. Soak up the atmosphere, dig deep and trust your training plan. You got this!!
