So I’ve kept the runs to 4 per week. I’m now creating plans using Training Load. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
Sometimes we get too caught up in how many miles we are running. When really the key is to train smarter. Training Load = Distance or Time x RPE.
You don’t need to know too much about it other than it should help make your training more consistent and ensure it remains progress. Your average weekly training load during Plan 1 was 1140 and that was when you were running at your best.
We then dropped it during the Autumn race season to 1000. Now it’s back to 1150, but off only 4 runs per week. I’ve added in an S&C but that is very comfortable at first just to ensure you get used to doing the exercises and don’t injury yourself. That session should only take 20-30 mins.
The main focus is Hastings Half Marathon. I’ve also put Paddock Wood in there because it’s a fast race and an excellent opportunity to run a PB. There’s normally a dozen or so of us from the team that go up. Myself and Paul Lambert are both chasing PBs there.
I’ve also included the Pier to Pier.
It’s a similar approach to before with 2 sessions per week. Intervals and a half marathon session. Then that’s combined with 2 easy runs (including a long run every other week).
For the intervals it might be worth considering Hastings AC. The reason I say this is on Tuesday evenings Ben McNeill, Will and Ashley Vora all go. So you’d be running with really strong runners. It’s £5 per month 2nd claim and then all track sessions are free. So it actually works out cheaper than coming to my sessions. Something to consider. I used to go before I did the Tuesday evening session.
Their sessions are a bit boring in that they normally run for 28-30 minutes every single week but the benefit of running with those quicker runners will help. Perhaps some weeks you might want to mix it up and join the Team. Entirely up to you.
There might also be the opportunity to do some of your half marathon sessions with Steve Gates. Remember running with him in the park. He’s aiming for a sub 1:20 half in the Spring and if you are happy I could try and team you up. He’s really nice guy and would appreciate the company. Also if you ever wanted to join him for a long run, just let me know. He does a lot of interesting routes on the trail, this Sunday he’s heading to the South Downs.
