Congrats on your half marathon PB! So pleased for you. It’s been great watching you run and progress in recent months and it feels like we’ve had the right training load.
We do need to increase that, but that’s fairly obvious given we are going from a half marathon to a 75k Ultra. But I’ve still been conservative increasing the training load from 990 average to around 1175 average.
To be honest the training itself isn’t going to be an issue. We need to be smart as the races themselves are going to have the biggest impact on your fitness. There’s only 3 weeks between HHM and the Marathon.
6 weeks from the Marathon to the Fox Ultra and the another 6 weeks until the Serpent Trail. Which is pretty manic.
So one solution I think is to remove an S&C session during this block. I think if you do one a week you’ll pretty much maintain the strength you’ve build up over the winter. Then we can use that day for extra recovery. On weeks that feel light and you feel strong, by all means add a 2nd, but I think something needs to give here, otherwise it’s going to be too much.
We’ve still only got 3-4 runs per week and the majority of them will be easy runs. We also need to focus on recovery after the races and try and have a taper of sorts before each event. Again given the small window it was a real challenge but I am happy with the plan I’ve created.
The marathon is the one which will require a leap of faith. Given Hastings as well there’s just not much time to get big volume in beforehand. I’ve squeezed in one big marathon session and possibly a 30k easy run in.
It’s going to be a case of seeing how you feel each week, especially after the races and just taking extra rest if you need be.
There’s a 4 hour run in there 3 weeks before the Fox. I think anything more and you just need too long to recover. As I said each race it’s itself is preparation for the next one.
I think it’s a good plan, one which will allow to get out on the trails a lot more and not worry too much about pace, but then still have those weekly effort sessions in there to maintain your current level.
