I’ll be honest, I think I enjoy the challenge of creating training plans for those with limited time. People that can run every day it’s easy, you just give them 2-3 easy runs a week to bolster the training load. But when there is only the scope for 3 runs but you still want to hit an average training load of 950 (same as before) it’s a real challenge, and one I relish.
I’ve tried to offer as much variety as possible when it comes to the sessions. I think there must be close to 40 different sessions you’ll do during this plan, which is great.
To summarize I’ve put in a couple of big half marathon sessions in the build up to Bewl. Then once that is out of the way the focus switches to speed work a bit for a few weeks, before then slowly introduce progressive half marathon sessions as we build again for HHM.
I’ve added in a few races, but by all means we can switch them out. Hastings 5 Miler is a great event, the Alan Corke 10k, which depending who turns up you might have a chance to win.
Then later in the plan I’ve put in the Battle 10K, Rye to Hastings and of course the Hastings Half. But the plan is always flexible and if you see a race you fancy we can always add it in.
I’ve scheduled a week off in the summer holidays, so it might just be a case of taking that when best suits you. It doesn’t have to be the week I’ve put in (starting 4th August). It might be that you want extra, which I think would also be fine.
You’ve proven you can run to a high level with limited availability which is great. If you did have time to do extra, I would always say the next best thing would be a 2nd S&C session, followed then by an easy 30-45 minute run.
Such is the nature of the plan though an additional 4th run isn’t going to make much difference.
I’m so delighted you are keen to stay on the plan, hopefully they get that road sorted so you can come and join us for some effort sessions again.
