Rye 10

LOAD: 600

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

With the hills, I’ve found half marathon pace is the best we can hope for here, but obviously that will fluctuate greatly depending on the section you are on. Dig deep up the hills and focus on good form.

Tough race, so it’s important to dig deep into your reserves and not be too deflated if you do need to walk, especially the last hill. If you do walk, count to 30 and then try and run for a bit. You’re running well though and the distance isn’t an issue. You got this. Very best of luck Jodie. No targets simply due to the nature of the route. Anywhere around half marathon come the end would be an excellent result.

Was a bit nervous about this race due to not running and not a great deal of sleep all week. I would have been happy to just get round but I’m super happy with the result! Chip time of 1:42:42 and I did walk some of the hills. I definitely need to work on those which I don’t think either of will be surprised about but it just reaffirms it. Loved the down hills though, so made the most of them to pick up speed and get my heart rate back down. I can say im back to fully loving the running again, not mentally beating myself up and wondering why im here which is great. Running had been a bit up and down due to that, being ill and now mum but I still feel we have made some progress even if it’s not at a fast rate. Thank you for sticking with me

I had a nice chat with Philippa post race who said she’s enjoying the training but was it ok she’s not super committed to chasing PB’s. Of which I said of course. For me, to see you taking part in races like this, wearing Hastings Runners colours, congratulation friends at the end, that’s what matters. Yes it’s nice to get fitter and run quicker times, but that’s just the consequence of enjoying the running, week in week out. So it’s really nice for me to hear you are enjoying it again. The reason I’ve stuck with you was I was a little concerned you might stop running, and I know the effect that could have, so I’m just super keen to keep you being part of this amazing community, even if at times it feels tough. Well done Jodie!! A great end to a tough week.
