LOAD: 45

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10.3km @ HM – Marathon Pace (RPE: 6-9)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Hard to set a pace given the elevation. A tough route but a great race. Can be done as an easy run if you prefer. VIEW THE ROUTE.

We want to approach this with a little caution 2 days after a half marathon. So I would sit back and run easy on the first lap, then start to pick up the pace, assuming the legs feel ok. That way you’ll have a nice strong race where you’ll over taking people on the last 2 laps. If you need a little walk, especially the first steep hill out of the woods, don’t see that as a bad thing, it’s a chance to catch your breath and kick on up towards the cottages.

Very best of luck Michelle. I hope you have a great race.

I should feel so pleased about this as I knew what I needed for a course PB after checking the HRs archived records. I felt pretty strong perhaps went off to quick and forgot we had to do the hills x 3 not x 2 🙈 I know I lost time on the hills although I really slowed I never stopped or gave up. I did enjoy it in a funny way, it was just as tough as I remember. I just have this sinking feeling inside I wish I had done better and got a better time. It was a PB but only 37 seconds. I think perhaps I am comparing myself to others and their great times. Just feel a bit rubbish but I will take away the positives from it too 😊

Yes you are probably being too hard on yourself. The fact you didn’t once stop, two days after the half marathon, is fantastic. Hastings Runners has 500 members now, and I would assume half of those are female. You just finished 6th place in a race, and whilst obviously not all the club were running, 6th out of 250 members is pretty good (understatement) if you ask me. And sometimes it’s also good to look at the benefits this will have for our fitness. That will have huge training benefits, 450 points in fact, so whilst you might feel a little deflated, just know your fitness has improved another few points as a result of your effort tonight. Really well done Michelle.
