Zone 2: Easy

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

I think I must of looked like a deer in headlights at the gym. It was absolutely heaving, no parking & 99% of the equipment in use. I wandered a bit aimlessly at the beginning. Found a free treadmill, did about 20mins on that, then used the cross trainer & rowing machine. The man at the desk said it was so busy due to time of day & January. My watch decided to calibrate 5mins after I’d started which it has never done before. I was actually really intrigued to see the stats on each machine but it just gave a random reading for the treadmill then nothing 🤦‍♀️ very annoying. I’ve tried to book a spin class but everything seems full, I’m sure it will quieten down as the month goes on. It was nice doing something with hubby
Yeah that time of day is ridiculous. It does vary depending when you go and often much quieter, but I guess work limits that. I was in their Tuesday evening and they just kept coming in and I wondered at what point they stop letting people in 🤔 Oh well. But if you can get into good habit it can make a big difference.

Sounds great fan!! Enjoy. 🥁

I’ve missed this over the Christmas break. Great fun with my new light up drumsticks 🥁
How can you make a drumming session more fun? Light up drumsticks of course. Nice. Well done Stacey.

No Friday run, not sure why. Hit the gym again, although I went early Saturday instead to avoid the crowds. It’s funny I have no discomfort of most of the stuff in there. I quite like the cross trainer.
You won’t. Because the impact is much lighter. I’ve been very limited with my running lately but can do loads in the gym. Whether it be the cross trainer, stair climber or bike. Plus you’ll get a sweat on quicker. So 60 mins in there compared to a 60 min easy run will probably be more beneficial. Jax did say she saw you this morning. Just a case of working out exactly your availability so I can set you some sessions. The “Magic Stairs” as I like to call them will be a brilliant piece of equipment for you and make those hills in the ultra feel much easier.

Zone 2: Easy

Long runs are key. Fuel and hydrate well & join a group if you can.

I followed the rules to the letter, off road, no running hills. However every trail route I have has hills, so this meant walking a lot more than I would have liked. But I’ve got home & I can weight bear on the foot which is a massive improvement to any other run I’ve had over the last month or so. This has meant I can walk up the stairs so no crawling today 😀 I got the hump at the bottom of beaneys & changed my watch to walk as that was all it felt like I was doing 🙈 I think next week I’m going to do the trail you took me on over at pett level. I’m sure that was all pretty flat.
This is good news. To be honest as an ultra runner you want to be walking the hills. That’s just smart. Then in the gym get yourself on the Magic Stairs. They will make the hill walking much easier. That will be a game changer for you. I can think of two flat trails. Pett to Rye via Camber Castle (2 hours +), then Brede to Winchelsea along the river, again probably 2 hours. The first is likely to be less challenging underfoot. But some good options there to avoid the hills. Well done on getting the 2 hours done Stacey.
