I’ll try, but can’t promise to post a weekly blog post here on the platform. Just to keep you up to date what the members of the Team are doing!!
It’s a time of year I love as a coach, with so many training for spring half and full marathons. We are at the peak of this current training window and the team impress me weekly with their commitment to smashing out those big sessions.
Sunday marked the first of the big local half marathons as 4 of the team battled a potential logistical nightmare to reach the start line of Brighton half marathon. Surely running is more important than Premier League football? Perhaps not.
The conditions were pretty brutal, persistent rain, and a strong breeze on the coastal route made it very challenging. It’s never much fun starting a race soaked to the skin and freezing cold. But we as a Team have been battling the elements all winter long, so this wasn’t going to stop us, I say us, I was tucking into my 4th slice of honey on toast in my luxury Air B & B when the gun went, but you know what I mean (I had just done 6 training days in a row I should add).
We had a PB for Kirsty M. She’s coming to the conclusion of her 3rd training plan and if you’ve never seen Kirsty out training on the streets of Hastings it’s probably because she’s back home and changed before even the early rises have hit their snooze buttons. Her Tuesday warm up for example started at 4:51am this week. Note to self, “go to bed earlier”.
Kirsty ran a cracking race, to cross the finish line in a time of 2:07:41. If you’re on instagram you can follow Kirsty’s running journey HERE.
Michael ran a blinder of a race, and having initially set himself a target of 1:45 a few weeks back, his recent strong form and added motivation, made a big difference, finishing really strongly to clock his third fastest half marathon in 1:40:40.
He even made an emotional guest appearance on the ITV News, post race. After some really tough recent news, Michael is raising money for Cancer Research UK, passing the £2,000 mark this weekend. CLICK HERE if you would like to donate.
Conal, who just 2 weekends ago banked a new marathon PB in Seville, ran a sensible but strong race to finish in an excellent time of 1:43:51.
Karl was also in action, and has been in great form of late in training, didn’t quite hit his A-goal, but came away with a strong performance to finish in 1:52:38, and I know there are quicker half marathons ahead, perhaps even this weekend. You’ve got this Karl!!
There was one other member of the team in half marathon action this weekend and that was Victoria. She headed to Rome to celebrate a birthday, I’m not sure who’s, but there was some Prosecco involved I believe, pre and post race.
The after drinks were most definitely deserved as Victoria battled the early crowds to run a new PB of 1:45:42. If Strava is to be believed she even ran a 2 second kilometre. (I’m not sure that’s 100% accurate).
Give Victoria a follow on STRAVA. I often find myself chuckling at her run descriptions.
This weekend the Team will be out in full force with both the Paddock Wood and Eastbourne half marathons taking place. Keep believing, you’ve worked hard over the winter months, now is the time to cash in your tokens and reap the rewards for that dedication.
If you want to be part of a Team of dedicated individuals all striving to improve both their physical and mental fitness, through the way of well structured training plans, get in touch today. I have a few spaces available which are likely to be snapped up soon.
