Still buzzing after yesterday πŸŽ‰ (although my quads aren’t πŸ˜‚)

Thanks again for the advice going into it. I tried to keep back as close to 4:40 for the first 5K as possible, with km 5 being the only significantly faster (the big downhill!). From here I settled in around the 40/45 mark and felt good.
Unfortunately that heat started to get to me about half way (it wasn’t as hot as last year, but felt worse πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ), and whether this exacerbated my glute as well I don’t know but it started niggling away shortly after half way too.
Luckily it didn’t feel like an injury niggle so I pushed through the rest of the race.
Dropped a few seconds away from pace in the last third, but with the heat and glute I’m very happy with how little the drop off actually was!
Sorry I didn’t see you towards the end – I might have looked strong, but definitely wasn’t feeling it at that point πŸ˜‚

We were well hidden on the bridge so no chance of seeing us. It was crazy busy. I think you have every reason to be delighted with that time. 6 min PB is huge in marathon terms at our level. And you were running at the hottest time of the day as well. Of all the people we followed yours were some of the best splits and it was a fantastically executed marathon. You should be super pleased with your time and how well you’ve dug deep in training when work was really demanding too. I couldn’t be happier and whilst the first 5k may have been a few seconds too fast, that’s fine. That’s how most marathons are run in truth. And pretty cool that you were part of the race where sub 2 was beaten for the first time. Awesome work Jamie.
