Ignore the titles for Thursday and Friday. It’s the GUC run. Be careful though. Nothing to prove this week, everything to lose. By that I mean if you get an injury which the puts you out for a while and effects the rest of the years plans. So just be sensible. I know I sound like a mum, but it’s only cos I care.

Zone 2

The biggest mistake we can make with these recovery runs is running too fast. This will mean when our harder sessions come round we are still fatigued and not able to put enough effort in to make the necessary gains.

A lovely early morning run along the seafront…perfect. Feeling really fit right now, which I’m grateful for
Great to hear. It’s a wonderful feeling to have!!

Zone 2: Easy

So important to respect the distance and get the pacing right. If you go off at a comfortable enough pace, then you’ll run a good race. Keep fuelling even if you don’t feel like it. Ultra’s have been described as “eating contests” by some of the leading runners. Walk the hills.

That really was very enjoyable and great fun. Very strong mentally and felt physically very good, apart from feet blistering up and my shoulders becoming extremely painful from carrying a heavy pack. I may do more of these long, solo, self-supported runs in the future, as they really give me a good grounding and remind me what really matters. I’m not bothered about the medal and the place I finish. Witnessing beautiful scenery and running through amazing locations is why I love running long distances, so I don’t need to pay £200 to do that. Very grateful for having the strength, health and fitness to be able to take on these crazy challenges. Thats it for this year though, apart from the races I’m already entered in, of course!
Legend. And yeah no reason why you can’t do these solo. Ultras are very expensive right? As long as you are sensible with your route planning, have enough water and potentially places to fuel, why not do these solo. Glad you enjoyed it and came back in one piece.
