Week Commencing: 6 July 26

Choose Day๐Ÿ‘‡

Pretty much a complete change up. But I like it. Extra rest from Sunday. Then a threshold session which you can do to pace (10k) to practice for the Barry Richards which is now only 4 weeks away. Then the Friday long run session, should feel fairly comfortable in truth, but it’s designed with the P2P in mind as getting the pace right for that one can be tricky. We probably want to be the quicker end of Zone 3 if racing that. DM me if you need to make any more chances as the schedule form only works once.

Always fun to train in a group. Ask for help if unsure on your technique on the exercises.

Session was really long because I spent a lot of time staring into the void ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
I did look at the 1 hr 20 mins and think people are going to question my slave driving approach to coaching. But glad most of it was spent daydreaming and not actually ruining yourself post Bewl. Good job.

Zone 2

The biggest mistake we can make with these recovery runs is running too fast. This will mean when our harder sessions come round we are still fatigued and not able to put enough effort in to make the necessary gains.

Hip a wee bit sore, might need to rethink tomorrowโ€™s run but will review in the morning. How long would an easy run have to be for the same points?
Nice stats on this one. I wouldn’t replace like for like in terms of pts, even if one is easy. What you want to do is drop the pts. So say 50 or 60 mins easy if hip is still hurting. Sunday there is possibly scope to make amends or if need be we can even swap next weeks recovery week to this one. But don’t force it or push too hard if the hip is being a dick. We’re in a good place right now so want to be a little cautious.

Easy Pace

Try and hit a pace somewhere in Zone 5: 10k. If the route is not flat you can focus on heart rate instead and try to avoid drifting into Zone 6. This should feel comfortably hard.

Pace / heart rate more like Z4 than Z5 but just could not turn my legs over any quicker! Was pleased I got this done but now I have a full day of work to do and I have Regret
You were sneaking towards Zone 5 for the pace. Have I bored you with metronome talk yet? Basically when ever I do an effort session solo, and to be honest sometimes races (will probably use it for Romney Marsh), I will work out what cadence = what pace. So Tuesday this week I wanted to hit 4:20 (10k pace), so did a little test pre run and worked out 178 cadence was needed (slightly higher than normal, due to running on the grass and not in my carbons, so shorter stride). Anyhow once that is determined I just run to the beat of the metronome and don’t look at my watch until the end of the rep. It annoys the hell out of some people, but I find it relaxing and gives me a real focus, splits ended up being 4:21, 4:25 and 4:22, so a little bit off target but it was roasting. Very few people in the team use it, which annoys me, because it’s a game changer and I talk about it a lot, but I don’t want to force people if it takes away their enjoyment of running. For me, it really locks down my form, the minute I lose form, whether than be slack arms of over rotation, I lose the beat, so it helps me dial back in on running efficiently.

A good session early in a marathon plan to practice running at goal pace. Each 5k block will get progressively harder in terms of a higher heart rate and RPE, pace should be the same throughout the 5k reps.

Hard but got it done!
3:52 pace? The pts of a session is a good starting point if you want to prepare yourself for how challenging it’s going to be. So yeah 50pts on the table, you know it’s going to be a slog. And actually probably more mentally challenging for you doing it solo on a Friday, so always factor this in. But good to take advantage of your availability and frees up the weekend a little. Really well executed there. Great job Lucy.

See how you fair with this session for now and we can always make some changes. It’s a strong all round workout that covers all fundamental movement patterns along with all the key muscle groups. If there is any area you feel is particularly weak and needs work I can add different exercises in. I like to keep the S&C simple and those that have stuck to their routines and not made continual changes have made real progress.

Yeah sometimes I would say, accept the hit, and take extra rest, if we try and force it, it might cause problems. But I respect your determination

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

If only everyone offered such short feedback when I took a weekend off. Appreciate it.
