Quite a big focus on Sunday in terms of resting up beforehand. Amsterdam is the main priority though so we can treat this as a free hit. It’s as flat as they come so a chance to dial in some consistent splits. Tuesday with the team, Wednesday with HR, a couple of gym sessions and 2 back to back rest days. All in all a good week. Roll on Sunday!!! Keep working hard Karl.

A good session to start off with your 5k pace and then pick up the speed as we move into the shorter reps. See if you can finish with your fastest lap in that final rep!!

A good session, worked hard and felt strong.
It was great watching you put in such an effort. You were chasing those ahead of you whilst Ben was trying to hang onto your tail. Nice to know that you are inspiring others to work hard as well. Awesome work Karl.

Likely your heart rate will climb as you run up the hills, so don’t worry too much about drifting into Zone 3 for the hills, try and keep the rest in Zone 2.

Swing batta-batta-batta-batta-batta swing. Sorry sometimes I’ll chuck in some of my favourite song lyrics to keep the feedback fresh.

Control what you can. The warm up, strides, getting the early pace right and staying positive when it gets tough. You got this!!

Was hoping for sub 50, but I think with the heat and a late night it wasn’t going to be easy. In the end just over 2 minutes quicker than last year so that’s a positive
Tough race to gauge. Looking at your splits, a bit spicy in the early pace, but then it’s not easy to judge, everyone else pretty much went off too quick (I noticed that), so it’s hard not to get swept up in that. And then it plays a part later in the race. For me I use all the help I can get, and perhaps too much data. But it helps me achieve what I think were very impressive splits. So I have my metronome on to ensure I keep my cadence and pace consistent, then I had HR alerts telling me how hard I was working. That’s a lot to process, but I think that kind of information and approach could help you too if you ever want to try it in a race. But overall, good to see that improvement on last year, hopefully we get cooler conditions for the next 10k. Well done Karl.
