The Pier to Pier takes up the majority of this weeks training, so we get a nice rest in the build up to make sure we are fresh come race day. Look to be sensible with the pacing and not go off too quick. Tuesdays session is nice short reps to get some speed in the legs and then a 60 minute easy run in between. Keep up the great work Xiulan.

A great 5k session to improve speed. Don’t got off too quick, so focus on your pace in those first few reps, then you’ll get an idea of how far you can run each rep. We want to be ahead of our current 5k pace though. From there you can then pick up the pace and cadence for the 1 minute reps.

Earlier in the day I recorded an easy walk. For the efforts I forgot to change the topic from walk to run. Efforts felt reasonable and not too hard.
I’ve done that many a time, normally I forget to change my heart rate settings, so when I do a fast run it beeps at me every 30 seconds 😂 Another strong session, really well done Xiulan

Zone 2: Easy

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Joined the cafe run and started from Dordrecht Way. Felt good and with the uptake in fitness I now feel able to loop back on occasions. Ran within myself.
Fantastic, yeah you should be at the point where if you get the pace right 60 mins feels easy and looping back really helps the group and encourages others, so I’m glad you were able to do that. Excellent work Xiulan. Definitely feel like we are making some good progress right now.

The Pier to Pier. What a race. Unless you are really pushing for a quick time, in which case, go hard early (need to be well trained for this strategy), my advice is slowly build the pace and work your way through the Zones. But you certainly don’t want to be quicker than half marathon pace until late in the race.

For some unknown reason my Huawei is not connecting to Strava. Although I was very pleased with my time I found the race very hard so I assume that my RPE should be a high number. My pace was fairly consistent from start to finish. I was well hydrated before starting and didn’t need too much top up during the run. I haven’t been sleeping well for a long time.
