Hi. Saw the podiatrist. She looked at my feet and confirmed that I have Haglunds Deformity. She’s sent me some exercises which I need to try out. The advice is to run for up to one hour but be aware of pain ie. If it’s more than 4 – stop. Hills put a strain on it. Just walking uphill hurts. Running 2-3 times a week is okay. The bump should start to go down after 6 weeks or so. Could take 6 months to get back to normal. I took my Hoka shoes along and she approved 🙂 Firm soles with a decent height gradient from heel to toe are preferable. So, she didn’t say stop running so that’s a win.
Anyhow, I ran on Thursday afternoon with a rest in the middle as it was super hot running towards Rock-A-Nore. Cooler on the way back and I had my son cycling on ahead, then stopping to clap me as I ran past him 😂
Cadence was crap though.
Sounds like you had a fun run, the self evaluated cadence comment made me chuckle. In terms of the heel. That’s positive right. The fact it can improve is big news. Granted we need to take one step back in terms of volume, but I think we can still maintain a decent level of fitness whilst the heel heals (poor grammar sorry). Maybe an additional form of cross training some weeks could help. Not sure your preferred option or we could stick to 3 runs. But overall this in my opinion is positive feedback, especially long term.
