Hi, I’m Coach Simon and creator of PB Runner. If you’d told me back in 2018 when I couldn’t break 30 minutes for a 5k, that I’d become a running coach, I’d have thought you were crazy.
But since then I’ve been on a journey of self improvement, both physically and mentally, thanks largely to discovering training plans. Such has been the enjoyment I’ve gained over the past few years from my running, I want to encourage as many runners as possible to follow a similar path. That’s what has ultimately led me down the route of coaching.
My coaching qualifications are with England Athletics. I hold the Leader in Running Fitness (LIRF), Coach in Running Fitness (CIRF) and the Level 3 Event Group Endurance (the highest qualification). I focus on helping runners from 5k up to the marathon distance.
I’m not one of these running coaches that can boast 15 minute 5k times or having represented Great Britain when I was younger. But I believe my experiences of struggling at the back of groups, finishing almost last in races and being mocked for my lack of speed at times, make me more relatable to the everyday club runner than other “elite performance coaches”.
I’ve had those experiences and have managed to improve my 5K time to under 20 minutes, and completed several marathons. More importantly I’ve enjoyed every step of the journey and have remained injury free for the past 5 years, by training smart.
I’m new to coaching and received my Level 3 qualification in the summer of 2023 and that’s reflected in the prices I charge. I hope to continue to learn, become a stronger runner and a better coach.
I’ve created my own coaching platform which allows you to login and view your upcoming training sessions. More importantly it allows on-going feedback between myself the coach and you the runner. I’ll be with you every step of the way.
