COACH SUMMARY

Given one of your first goals was the run comfortable for 10K I think we’ve achieved an awful lot in that first plan, way beyond that goal.

I’ve been really impressed with your progress and am very excited about what you can achieve in this 2nd plan. If you were to ask me, do you think I could run a sub 2 half marathon? My answer, without hesitation would be yes.

That’s not to say that has to be the goal, but just my way of saying what I think you can achieve in the next 3-4 months.

Depending on the date they schedule it for, the Pier to Pier might also be an option. The plan I have created does take you up to 26 km (the distance of the P2P), but it just depends how close it falls to the goal race.

It’s very much a case of more of the same here. Tuesday and Thursday evenings, one slightly tougher than the other 😜. 1 Strength and Conditioning session at home which hopefully we can make progressively more challenging during the plan.

Then Sunday’s run will vary. Some weeks it will be about easy miles and building up the distance from 10 miles to 16 miles. Other weeks I will create a half marathon specific session. The difficulty of those sessions will also progress during the plan.

As we push beyond 120 mins exploring refuelling options will be important. CLICK HERE to view a post I wrote on this topic which should help. Training is our opportunity to try these things out. I’ve never had a gel, simply because I’m very strict with my diet and I don’t understand the ingredients so have always relied on dried fruit, dates and nuts.

For example your first half marathon session will only require you to run 5km at goal pace, the last session will be 16km at goal pace. I’ve also tried to incorporate as many parkruns as possible. It might be possible to do more of these if you run them easy. I’m never going to say no if parkrun isn’t in the plan and you ask me if you can run it easy.

If this plan goes well I expect you’ll be running to a very good level come the end. I’m excited.

I’ve updated your ratings based on my perception of your abilities now, but feel free to tweak them if you feel they are a little out of line.
