Despite being local this is not a race I completed myself. It’s place in the calendar is designed to act as perfect preparation for a spring marathon. The course is almost pancake flat with just 2 small hills on the out and back route. The quiet country lanes mean there is little in the way of spectators or support and the route is quite exposed to the elements meaning if it’s windy on that day, you are going to know about it. If you are deep into your marathon training and want to mix up your long runs and gain some confidence by completing a race, this seems a very good option. PS, the picture is not from Lydd 20, it’s likely to be far more bleak than that.
