Tough. The hills were tougher than I was ready for so walked some (for less than 30 each time) but did push on on the flat and down hills to try and make up for it.
Given the limited hill training whilst on holiday and then being ill (don’t think I said but required two trips to A&E/critical care in three days) I was thoroughly chuffed with less than 2h 40! My plan b (after holiday and illness) was 2h45 and plan C (the most realistic time) was 3 hours. Left hammie and achilles were aching along the seafront but I had been nursing them for the past few weeks to get to the start line so is only to be expected! I tried to find someone to run behind on the seafront but there was only one woman who was literally half my height but did manage a push for the run in and had nothing left.
The long training runs along the sea front paid benefit as I knew how far I had to finish. Only gutted as in the excitement of finishing under 2h 40 I forgot to stop strava :-(
Going to be bed happy, knackered and looking forward to a week off! Thanks for your support and guidance, I don’t think I could have completed my first half without you!
Amazing. Well done Rebecca. An excellent time given the issues you had post holiday. I had no idea the illness was that bad and quite relieved in a way you had not told me. The past few weeks there has been a noticeable improvement and it was great to see you cross the line looking so strong. Definitely take a week off and then consider what you want to achieve next. I’ve seen some real potential in the past few sessions so I think there’s some quicker times possible over those shorter distances and whilst PBs are not the be all and end all, it does amazing when you get them. Speak soon.
