The Day of the 10Ks

  • July 14, 2025
  • Coach Simon Blog

I’m not really sure where to start this week. Going back through the PB Runner Strava group it reminded me why I’m so tired. Let’s just say it’s been busy.

I’ll take you back 5 days to Wednesday, the Last Leg Tempo Relays. Always a great event and popular even if the rules on mixed teams need to be changed (let’s not go there). The Mills brother know what they did.

Lindsey, Victoria, Adrian, and George were all representing Hastings Runners, whilst Jack & Jamie were running with BRT! Perhaps next year we can even have some Orange Teams involved?

48 hours later, another fun event was taking place, the Oliver Curd Trust Run. Will did his best to scare us off in his race briefing with talk of cows, barb wired and some of the most uneven ground in Sussex, but we all came through unscathed and had a wonderful evening.

Myself, Lou, Su, Andy, Sue, Jodie, Adrian, Jim and Michelle all completed the 8.5km course with a smile of our faces. Several other members of the team were on hand to help out with marshalling duties. Definitely an event I would recommend for future years, with over £1300 raised for the charity.

Of all the times for the temperature to ramp up, Saturday was the worst possible occasion. Stacey and Anna both attempted the Race to the Stones 100k. However with temperatures well over 30 degrees and other UK Ultra races cancelling their events halfway through, both Stacey and Anna made the sensible decision to stop halfway.

Sometimes conditions are just not in our favour and we need to make a strategic decision for our safety and fitness going forward. Pretty much before I could send them my condolences both had already entered another 100k race in a few months time. Gotta love that attitude.

Sunday was the day of the 10ks. Romney Marsh, or is New Romney, I never quite know. As it’s part of the Hastings Runners Club Championship the Team had a really good turnout.

Despite the warm temperatures we had two PBs. Jack (37:55) completed his final goal for the year by breaking the sub 39 minute mark. In fact he was so far under he was even able to take a tumble 50 metres from the line, dust himself off, get back up, and still break 38 minutes. What a warrior.

The 2nd Personal Best. No prizes for guessing who. It was Lindsey (47:17), who continues her excellent progress, by knocking over 2 minutes off her previous best 10k time.

Also running at Romney were Dan (50:19), Karl (53:10), Andy (56 something I think?), Sue A (1:02), Mark (1:03), Philippa (1:06) and Chrissie (1:17).

We also had a good representation at the Saucony 10k in London with Su S, Sue W, Lou M and Jodie all running the race together in a time of 1:06. Kirsty T was also in town and despite her latest self inflicted injury issue (don’t do Tricep dips on the edge of a swimming pool), she managed a new PB of 56:14.

Edging ever further from Hastings, we had Andy complete the Newcastle Half Marathon, pacing a friend to a new PB, and Sarah smashing out the 10K.

But that’s not all, we go further, as Kieran Brooks finished in 9th place in the Jordgubbsloppett 12.5km race (in Sweden) in a hugely impressive time of 49:49.

It’s not just about the races of course. I was super impressed with the commitment of the team in training last week. So well done everyone.

We also welcome new members to the team in Chrissie, Victoria, Lucy and Alison. Thank you all for your continued support as the Team continues to grow. Let me know if I missed anyone.
