Battle 10K

LOAD: 45

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10Km @ 10k Adj Pace (RPE: 7)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

There are 3 sections to this race. Kms 1-3 mainly downhill and flat. You’ll be under goal pace but be sure not to go too fast, you’ll need to conserve energy for the hills between 4-6km. This is when you’ll be working really hard, but dig deep, once you reach the main road it gets easier and you’ll get a 2nd wind.

The final stretch is flat, but still a grind. The finish down the high street is the best part so try and save some energy for a strong finish.

PACE

HOT!! Not great when I over heat and I felt this with 1.4 miles to go. I had in my head I wanted a sub 1hr as I got 1hr4 41 last year. Worked out my average pace and thought might not happen due to the hills and heat. If I’m honest I also find the route boring with the two very long roads of constant sun and one being a gradual incline like Queensway. I ran with Klare who wanted under 59mins and it was great to have her company. Never did I ever think I would be able to run with speedy Klare! But we did and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Unfortunately lost her for the last 1km as I picked up pace for a strong finish of 57mins 46 seconds. Rather pleased with that and only 1min off of my Barry time. My legs felt strong, just too hot!! oh and I forgot I hadn’t eaten since 2pm the day before 🤦🏻‍♀️ but I did have a gel before starting and electrolytes on route. very pleased with my time all things considered and feel like the progress is still happening but at a comfortable pace. That being said I’m being asked constantly about the Hastings half. You know my thoughts on this, only if I can get a sub 2hr. This isn’t happening in October but feel we might need to talk about March next year 🙈 and what your thoughts are realistically on this. Could it be done? Or am I feeling overly optimistic after a couple of good races?

Awesome running Jodie, another fantastic time and a huge improvement on last year.
