Great South Run

LOAD: 580

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10 Miles @ 10 Mile Pace (RPE: 6-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

I’ve heard really positive things about the Great South Run and it’s a race I would love to do one year. The course is very flat and it attracts a strong field with a massive entry list. 10 Miles isn’t a distance we cover very often so it’s important to get the pacing right and not go off too quickly. That’s easily done when running in a big field when lots of those around you will make that same mistake.

Because I have so much belief in you I’ve ignored my trusty pace sheet and set you a little bit of a more ambitious goal.

The main aim here was always to finish it. So see the target as more of a way of me saying “what’s possible” than “you have to run this pace”.

I don’t want you coming into this with any expectations or pressure. I want you to approach it with excitement but also confidence as to what is possible.

Hope that all makes sense?

Anyhow, the key to a good race like this is not getting carried away in the early part, keep your pace over 6:30 per km to begin with and I think you’ll do very well.

Enjoy. Best of luck Jodie. You got this.

The great south east bimble run had to take over from the GSR but what a great run it was! Quite a hilly route and run an extra 0.5mile for the cool down. Moving time 1hr47min53secs! So within target but elapsed time was longer as we stopped for a photo at the abbey and for people to catch up. However as GSR is a flatter route I think I would have potentially got it or at least close to target! 😁 And now I’m scared what’s next 😂

Such a shame, but ultimately it’s got you to where you are right now. We still have 4 weeks left on the current plan, but without any races scheduled in, so if there is anything which takes your fancy, let me know. Options include: Beckley 10K Poppy run Winter 5K A scary goal would be the Hastings Runners Pier to Pier. 16 miles in late February. Would set you up nicely to run a strong Half Marathon a month or so later.
