Hastings Half Marathon

LOAD: 750

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

What a race! Just having the opportunity to take part in this event is a win straight away. The crowds are amazing. Given the route your RPE will fluctuate and be higher early in the race, but don’t worry, if you pace it right, that will drop as you reach the Ridge, so keep digging deep up the hills. You got this 👊

I think you’re better than this target time, but equally I ask myself what strategy would make this race the most enjoyable for my runners. There is a quite a big group of the team planning on joining the 2:20 pacer. So my suggestion would be to just tuck in with them until at least the top of Queensway, if not the Cone turnaround in Ore. That way you are not pushing hard on the hills, can ignore the watch for the first 3rd of the race, and conserving energy for a strong finish. If you do hold back until Ore you can then run the last 4 miles picking off runners and how fun would that be? You might even find you get closer to 2:15 that way. Happy to discuss and alternative approach if you want a quicker time.

Target Time: 2:17:00 Target Pace: 10:30

Best made plans and all that! Bimblers met at the end of The Ridge and did a circuit that took in Crowhurst, back of Sidley, Link Road path and Castleham! Very hilly at the end, and not fast as lots of lanes and cars, but we got it done, wore all things orange and had fun. Ran 13:28 miles in 2:33, I’m getting slower sorry 😂

I don’t think we should be looking at the watch here to determine the success of the run. Given the disappointment of the cancellation I think the most important thing was lifting spirits by running with friends. I loved all the Orange accessories, that really made my day. So thank you. Plenty more races to look forward too. Well done Sue.
