Paddock Wood Half

LOAD: 700

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)
21.09km @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)
2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Very few hills, the most notable at the start, so an excellent opportunity for a PB. Try and nail down that pacing early on and keep it consistent. Dig deep when it gets tough.

My only worry here is you’re running so well that there is that slight risk of going off too quick. It’s easily done. So I would focus really closely on the pace in that first half mile to make sure the watch says 6:20 or above. I’d rather you start off a bit more conservative and finish strongly than go off to fast and really struggle at the end. I think you’re in PB shape, but there are never any guarantees and the one thing that could prevent you from getting that is too quick a pace early doors. So just hold back, even if it feels easy to being with. Then if you’re going to hit 6:10-6:15 pace, make that the last few miles. Plus if you knock too much off your time, you’ll make it that much harder to beat in the future 😂 But what I do know is how well you are running right now and that you’ll leave it all out there on the course, regardless how tough it gets and for that I admire you so much. Go and smash it. You’ve earned it. Good luck Paul.

Brutal, stuck to the 6:20 in mile one then went. Dropped a sub 6 minutes mile at mile 3 and told myself to ease up. Felt hard from about mile 7 and mentally wanted to stop more than once but kept digging deep. Couldn’t be happier with the result on that. Thank you again for all your hard work getting me in shape to pull out these times. And congratulations on your PB too. It was great to see you and Joe come across the line so happy.

Brilliant. I feel like you have this incredible ability to push yourself to the limit when needed. Which is a real asset, in running especially and obviously needed to produce times like that. I think when you look at how much you beat Sam by and even Colin, granted he’s been out for a bit, it highlights how you’ve taken your running to a completely new level, and that despite having setbacks along the way. You should be incredibly proud of your own achievements and hard work getting this far. And without having to smash out silly mileage, which I think is a good lesson for many going forward. I’d also like to thank you for your continued support in me as a coach, it’s really helped my confidence, in particular to see the quicker runners doing so well. Congrats on your PB Paul.
