Poppy Half Marathon

LOAD: 700

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

If the weather is good then this out and back loop provides an excellent opportunity to run a fast time. Let’s just hope that wind behaves itself.

Forecast looks really good. We’ve not done a great deal of half marathon training so I’ve been very conservative with your target time.

If you can run a PB and feel strong, that’s fun. I think come the spring you’ll be aiming for sub 1:40.

Quicker than expected

PACE

Perfect conditions, good temperature v little wind and the course was a little short(according to watch). I was able to run at a consistent pace throughout just quicker than my target pace of 4.45 km. From approx 16km to 17km I really had to push myself mentally to keep at that pace but for the rest of it I was more concerned about going too fast and kept checking myself. At the end I was also able to speed up the hill and felt that i finished strongly. Will happily admit that I didn’t have a massive amount left when I crossed the line. I am very very happy with that time.

I’ve not seen the time yet and haven’t found a results page. Sub 1:40? That’s huge and sounds like you ran the perfect race. You should be buzzing with this. Awesome work Matt. So impressed with how you keep improving and churning out those PBs.
