A lighter recovery week, good timing after the half, hopefully well recovered in time to put in a speed session come Wednesday. We’ll be using them quite a lot going forward to compliment the marathon pace sessions and long runs coming up. Any problems let me know but keep up the great work Iain.

Zone 2: Easy

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Completed in the humidity of Koh Samui. Probably didnโ€™t go as slow as I should have bearing in mind the heat
I like it, pace and HR both towards the top end of Zone 2 without going over. It’s kind of what I try to do. My top end HR in Zone 2 is 145 so I set an alert on my watch for 140 so I know if I’m getting close. I find that is a good way of doing the easy runs. Hope you are enjoying your trip?

Easy Pace

Try and hit a pace somewhere in Zone 5: 10k. If the route is not flat you can focus on heart rate instead and try to avoid drifting into Zone 6. This should feel comfortably hard.

PT Session

Trust your PT.

Always explain to your PT what else you are doing this week so they can adjust the session accordingly.

Not doing PT this week Completed the run as I best I could on the gym treadmill
No worries, I will change the target for the week to reflect that. Thanks for letting me know.

RPE: 3

Keep it easy but also focus on good form. If you can increase your cadence without raising your heart rate, then give it a go.

Completed on treadmill, so stats not useful
Great work Iain. I would say HR and RPE are still good data points for a treadmill run. In fact the treadmill is actually quite good if you want to run to a specific HR, as the belt determines your pace and you know you will be consistent.
