I quite like the idea of having a crack at the half on Sunday. We’ve done a lot of good work at half marathon pace for Worthing and Ko Samui so you should be in decent shape to run a strong time, and then we can make the switch post Goodwood to the marathon paced sessions. I think you’re get the most out of the week by attempting a decent time Sunday. Obviously if it’s still very hot we can factor that in, but from a progress point of view working at Zone 4 RPE/HR will bring the most benefit.
Coach Simonπ
The biggest mistake we can make with these recovery runs is running too fast. This will mean when our harder sessions come round we are still fatigued and not able to put enough effort in to make the necessary gains.
*Recoveries:
120 Seconds for the 5 Mins Reps.
90 Seconds for the 2 Min Reps.
A good session to start off with your 5k pace and then pick up the speed as we move into the shorter reps. See if you can finish with your fastest lap in that final rep!!
Trust your PT.
Always explain to your PT what else you are doing this week so they can adjust the session accordingly.
Stick to your goal pace early on and it should feel easy. Dig deep in those final 5km to achieve your goal. The biggest mistake you can make is getting swept along in the early stages and going off too fast.
