Same approach, if we can fit in any extra running, great. If not, no worries, enjoy your holiday, that’s the most important thing.

Travel day – bus, ferry, taxi, train, train, train with a lot of walking joining up the dots and now we’re 1,000 km further north in Italy. Lots of sitting down while travelling so that was the rest!
I quite like all the travelling. I feel happy when I am on the move and do love a good train ride. Sounds fun to me.

Did a little run. 20 mins walking warm up and then a 30 min slow run up and down the only run-able area of Monterosso. Rest of day will be hiking to the next villages up and down high cliff paths above the sea.
Well done Sarah, good to give the legs a little run out. Sounds like the hiking will get the heart rate up as well. Enjoy.

This is a session designed to work the key muscle groups and not inflict more pain on the back. I really hope it works.

All exercises attempted except my version of forward row (using resistance band) as that was making my elbow joints hurt and of course RDLs. Our room had only the hard ceramic tiled floor or top of the bed for ex space so I did some exs I’d usually do on the floor on top of bed – not ideal!
I hate those tiled floors, impossible to do certain exercises. Good improvisation Sarah

Another travelling day, then walks around Turin – 9 miles clocked up so not exactly restful but hey… I hope you have a lovely relaxed weekend.
You’re exploring a lot of different places. Sound exciting. I’ve done Sorrento, Positano and Rome as day trips on my honeymoon cruise many years ago. The latter was far too busy for me, but I enjoy those in the bay of Naples. Oh and we went to Palermo as well. Enjoy your weekend Sarah. I might sneak onto my phone to do some feedback when Jax isn’t looking 😂

Simon! Coach says to REST on rest days! Though that’s not always possible. Your trips to Italy sound good – I’ve never been to Palermo but it’s on the list. After travelling yesterday my legs were very painful (?? Lifting heavy suitcase down/up steps?) Anyway, they were still hurting a lot this morning so the run did not happen. I walked 5 km hoping it would ease off but no luck. Sure I’ll be fine at Heathfield though, after walks, drills, warm up etc.
With Sunday in mind, very sensible to rest up.

LOL! Simon – I meant YOU should rest on your weekend off instead of secretly doing feedback! Anyway, to today – another max travelling day, all the way home from Chambery in France, with Eurostar from Paris to get us back to UK. That was the most stressful part as trains were all delayed and the crowds built up massively. But we had lots of sitting down when we got into our train seats!
that’s annoying about the trains. I didn’t actually do any feedback in the end over the weekend, probably why it’s 10 past 5 now on Monday and I’ve still not reached Sunday’s feedback 😱 It’s all good fun though.

Control what you can. The warm up, strides, getting the early pace right and staying positive when it gets tough. You got this!!

Heathfield 10k done! 😀 I started with my usual walking warm up to ease the legs, then drills. I found a lovely cool spot in nearby Darch’s Wood – shady trees, twittery birds, ponds, with paths where I cd do my drills unobserved then walk/jog back to the race HQ. After that I did a running warm up including 8x100m strides. Pain had worn off with these warm ups, some stretches and a dose of Paracetamol. Nice start, running downhill. One of my current heroes, Mark D, soon overtook me at speed. I treated the event as a tempo run and feel I achieved that. I power walked on some hills but ran all of the final hill from 8k. Another hero – Sue M, came past at 7km, really going well, and I could see her getting further ahead up the hill. I upped my speed for the final section on grass and felt pleased with my effort today, regardless of my times getting worse. I won my age group but my main competition was not running! Nice to see you and Jax cheering us on near the top of the hill.
There are two ways you can look at these races right now. One is to compare past times and be a little disappointed. The other is to love being part of the club, the team, finishing strongly and just having a fun time. So I know you definitely are embracing the latter but I also wanted to address the other side, as I’m sure there is a little tinge there which would prefer to be faster. But honesty don’t worry about that. Enjoy feeling strong, there were very few around your time who would have made it all the way up that hill. Sue and Mark, perhaps, but as you say, they are both awesome. A great way to finish a wonderful week.
