I think it’s worth taking a moment to reflect how far you’ve come since that first meeting we had. To be at this stage, primed, not only for your first marathon, but to run a really strong time. I think there’s definitely a sub 3:40 in there, and in the future even quicker if you wanted. But pacing is everything. Get that wrong and everything goes to pot. Going off too fast is so easily done, especially at that stage when you feel strong and it feels easy. It won’t come mile 20, trust me on that. But fantastic work on completing the plan so well and very best of luck for Sunday. Reach out if you want to chat beforehand.

“Rest days are key. Our body adapts and gets stronger when we rest & recovery. Have a good one!”

Thanks for the comments. In regards to Sunday, if the weather is not very hot or windy. I am going with the first 2km as i can. No quicker than 5.30 per km. Then i am hoping to find my rhythm and run at approx 5.10 to 5.15. I may even stick to the 3.45 pacer and let them do all the thinking :). At 20 mile i will reevaluate and see if i can go faster or if needed slower. For me this. marathon is about getting the first out of the way. My priority is to finish sub 4hr and if that happens i will be very happy with the outcome and i do not want to risk that by going off too fast on the offchance that i can shave off a couple of minutes
Love that approach. And so refreshing to hear something speaking so sensibly for their first marathon. I think if you execute it in that manner you’ll have a brilliant experience

Done. Of course you can (comment)
Thanks Matt, appreciate that. I should be there Sunday, going to don my number and do 14 miles, just to get something for my money but then hopefully be somewhere near the finish to cheer the rest of the team in.

“Rest days are key. Our body adapts and gets stronger when we rest & recovery. Have a good one!”

I want to say that I have really enjoyed this training. It has worked for me and at no point have I felt stressed, pressured or close to injury. Due to this, I know that, whatever happens on Sunday, I am going to do another marathon where I am going to go for a time. I have genuinely enjoyed the process of getting here and I look forward to doing it again.
I love these words. Thank you so much. It means a lot to hear that. Would it be ok to use that as a Testimonial? I’d put “Matt” and use a generic picture so there wouldn’t be any tie to you online? But that would really powerful feedback for me to include on my site if you are ok with that? Thanks Matt.

We’ve made it. So exciting. The biggest mistake is going off too fast, know your pace and stick to it, even if it feels super easy. You’ve trained well, now just go and execute. Best of luck.

I stand by my comments and say that i felt the training was excellent and that I felt in good form. The start of the race went well and i thought i paced it well. At the half way , with the 3.45 pacer, was feeling confident and i was contemplating trying to increase pace and have a negative split. Pride comes before a fall, in this case literally. I went over the outside of my left foot and hurt my left side. I did try to keep going , but my body felt worse rather than better.
Gutted for you, but just one of those things. I’ve stopped due to injury at the 32km mark. It’s long way to go from there if things are not right so it was a smart choice. It also opens up the opportunity of perhaps having another go within the next month and taking advantage of that fitness you have built up. Entirely up to you. But still, really well done for executing a fantastic training plan, the fact you enjoyed it shouldn’t be forgotten.
