Cambridge Success for Jo

Now I’m getting excited. The races are coming! LET’S GO!!

Time to put the hard work and grind over the winter months to practice and get our much deserved rewards. Whether we run PBs or achieve our goals, it doesn’t matter, what we want to do is enjoy the races and feel strong out there, knowing we’ve worked hard to get here.

On Sunday Jo Lambourne took part in the Cambridge Half Marathon. It was Week 8 of her plan as she builds towards Manchester and London Marathon with the aim of running a sub 4 and possibly even a new PB.

Jo smashed in at Cambridge on Sunday. Despite a tough start with crowds and a hilly 1st km she managed to achieve her target of running a 1:45 half marathon, her quickest in over 10 years. Amazing.

I can’t wait to see what Jo can achieve at the conclusion of her plan with the big day getting ever closer.

It was another great week for the team 🍊 and it dawned on me that whilst a few of us struggle with the cold going round, no-one is actually injured. That’s always my priority when setting your plans and trying to make sure the sessions are progressive. We don’t want to overdo it and we want to make sure rest and recovery is adequate to adapt to the hard sessions we complete. Fingers crossed I’ve not jinxed it.

This weekend 5 of us are running the Paddock Wood Half Marathon. It’s a goal race for myself and Marie. Finlay, Helen and Kate are using it as prep for Hastings Half and I’m confident we’ll all smash it.

Debra and Jo French are heading to warmer climates to tackle the Paphos 10K. It’s also the conclusion of the XC season with Hastings Runners hosting the race in Pett. Will, Darren and Ruth will all be tackling the hills & mud. Rather you than me.

I wrote an article about not achieving your goals and I really believe it’s important we don’t put pressure on ourselves. The main purpose of the goal is to keep us motivation to train smart. If we achieve them, awesome, if we don’t, then we should be proud of completing the training plan and getting fitter along the way.

Often you will find your best performances in races come when you least expect it.
