The Races are Coming!

Is it me or there is a buzz of excitement in the air around Hastings Runners right now? I get the impression so many people are motivated and feeding off the inspiring efforts of others.

There’s so much to be gained from training smart and working to a plan. Most people will look to your times and question the improvement. But for me, that’s just a bonus. PB’s are great, don’t get me wrong. But better physical health, improved mental health and increased self esteem are far more important.

PHMHSERunner just doesn’t sound quite as catchy as PBRunner! I’m sure you’d agree.

Plus I’ve not even mentioned the positivity that you are giving off to other runners (and non runners). I know a few of you who have friends joining you to replicate the training plans you are on. Family too may also take inspiration from your efforts.

Sometimes running is hard and we may question why we put that effort in. But if you inspire one other person and help improve their mental health and physical well-being, there’s your answer. That alone is worth the occasional suffering.

From a personal perspective I’m loving it. I’ve started my Level 3 Endurance Coaching Qualification with England Athletics and appreciate I still have a lot more to learn.

Track sessions on a Monday are a highlight of my week and the camaraderie in the improvers group right now is a joy to be part of. Whether that will prove the case when I unveil tomorrow’s session, we shall see.

Everyone in that group is just so positive, although Jax did get some rather angry stares when she rolled a 6 last week to put the group through their paces!

I’d like to welcome Debra Van Aalst and Will Withecombe who both started new training plans this week. Both have struggled with injuries at times and avoiding niggles is always one of the main goals I set out to achieve when setting the sessions.

We are just 2 weeks away from the Hastings Runners Pier to Pier which feels like the start of the Race Calendar. We will soon be into March when the spring half marathons start popping up around the country.

A shout out to Ruth Spiller who ran a great time at Bedgebury 10 Miler this morning on what looked a brutally undulating course.

Will was 3rd in the Whitbread Hollow XC and Darren Barzee and Phil Morris also took part.

I’ll try and post a regular weekly update where time allows and to keep you up to date with any changes to the site. Please always message me if there is anything playing on your mind or you have a question you’d like to ask. No matter how silly it may seem.

The weather looks favourable this week, so let’s keep those easy runs easy and dig deep for those harder session #YouGotThis!!
