Decent week on the cards here. Especially as everything midweek is nice and easy. Then we can unleash the beast on Sunday and see what is in the locker!! Any issues let me know. But lots to look forward to and 150pts on the table to be snapped up. Keep up the great work Sam. 4 weeks to the big one.

Did DIY, ate cake, ate curry, slept
Shit was it your birthday. Sorry, yesterday was ridiculous. So busy and some nonsense at home to deal with, that’s my excuse. All is ok I can report. Happy belated birthday. DIY on your birthday? Did Laura buy you a power tool?

Zone 2: Easy

Keep this nice and easy. Focus on good form & efficient running economy. RPE should be around the 3/10 which means you can run and chat.

Only 80mins due to some stop/starting (some of the group were not in trail shoes so when it shat it down then had zero traction, it was a bit amusing) and 215m of elevation. Slow pace, 12.5k, got soaked to the skin. Tight/sore upper-hamstrings from the 5 Miler.
Sounds interesting all round. Maybe for the best if the hamstrings were still sore after Sunday. I’ve been there on the trails in road shoes, in ain’t fun. Looks like we’ll need our trail shoes for Sunday now after all this rain πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Zone 2-3: Easy/Steady

Likely your heart rate will climb as you run up the hills, so don’t worry too much about drifting into Zone 3 for the hills, try and keep the rest in Zone 2.

Pah, what a shite day… shitting rain and wind. Not feeling this one (can you tell?!? ;-) ) – legs still quite sore and tight from Sunday’s race, and off-road last night, although slow, didn’t help me recover. 11k in 1:02, got wet, despite the Β£160 jacket that is shit (and therefore free). Tired.
That’s a lot of money for a non waterproof jacket. As my Strava comment posted I was up at Hillcrest school on their playing field which is basically the highest point of town, totally exposed to the wind and rain. What made it worse is we should have been in the woods but for a school admin cock up. Like you I was not happy. Complaints will be made. Well done for getting out there though.

Russian Twist 2 x 10 (10)

Crab Walks 2 x 22
Bicycle Crunch 2 x 25
Bent Knee Calf Raises 2 x 15 (12)
A bit of a slog but got through it all OK, first one in a while (last one was in April!). Still pretty sore and tight in my left upper hamstring which is annoying but not causing me to not do stuff… yet.
Wow. First one since April. How did that happen? But glad it went ok. If you didn’t have a niggle training for a 100km race you’d be questioning whether the training is hard enough. Right? On a serious note keep an eye on it and ice it as much as possible. That can make a big difference.

Zone 2: Easy

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Had to do this one first thing this morning (what a nightmare!) as didn’t have time at lunch or evening today. Pretty tired and stiff, and sore still from S&C but managed to jog along OK in the morning sun, saw loads of runners which was nice. 11k, Did an extra 4 mins to regain some lost points from Tuesday. That’s an extra 6:40 on Weds and Fri to make up for some of the lost 10 mins… don’t go shortchanging me now ;-)
I didn’t give you any extra pts for Wednesday. Soz. Will add all 3 onto here to make sure you are on track. Hopefully things will all feel good Sunday morning. The weather left me questioning what shoes to wear though. Will check out what they say on facebook tomorrow.

Stick to your goal pace early on and it should feel easy. Dig deep in those final 5km to achieve your goal. The biggest mistake you can make is getting swept along in the early stages and going off too fast.

Was a bit worried going into this one, what with the dodgy tum and dizzy spells in the days leading up to it! On the day I felt fairly fit, the day’s rest meant my leg soreness/stiffness had relaxed a little. It was nice having so many of us there, felt like a club race. I set off a little too quick but soon backed off into a decent manageable pace letting the front runners shoot off (incl. Lambo). Was aiming for ~4:20s on the flat sections where possible which felt comfortable but working. I caught Paul just before East Hoathly as he got stuck behind someone on the single track section, I announced my presence with an encouraging “get on with it then Paul!” and we ran together for a few kms – he thought we were going a tad quick but it felt just about OK to me so kept it up. I lost him and another chap on some downhill fields but he caught me up on the long field uphill, I could hear him slowly reeling me in. When we hit the steep downhills before the halfway(ish) turnaround I left him as bombed off, but again he caught me on the uphills – it was motivating having someone on my heels, we had an Uckfield Runner with us for these sections and almost until the end too which was cool. It started feeling a bit tough 2/3rds in but Paul was very motivating and kept motoring on so I followed, he stayed just ahead until 3km to go as I wanted to pushed to get it under 1:40. I bombed down those last trail sections like a madman and lost Paul until the final road section, I was really feeling it here but kept pushing hard as didn’t want him to catch me. Was in the 3’s for most of that last km which hurt a bit, but it was worth it – a good strong finish and a great result. Hard work but lots of fun. Good weather and conditions, got a bit clagged up and slipped a few times but mostly it was fine.
Having run this averaging 5:30 per km and working fairly hard towards the end it gives me a much better reflection of just how good sub 1:40 is. It wasn’t easy out there, lots of undulation, the stiles, the steps, the bumpy ground. Hugely impressed and possibly one of your best runs yet. I think highlighted by the fact you beat Paul who until now has probably had a little edge over you. Close to 400 runners and 7th place. You’re pretty good at this right? And I think further evidence that you continue to make small gains which is never that easy. Really pleased you snuck in under the time you wanted and super happy with the outcome. And yeah, the whole thing just had this lovely vibe to it where we were all supporting each other, which was great. 150pts for the week too, not been many of them recently which will help towards the Serpent.
