Big week, last one before Bogota, make it count if you can. I have tweaked it, I say tweaked, changed all but 1 of the sessions πŸ˜‚ A chance to try the 1km reps again at threshold and then practice race pace on Sunday. Keep the easy runs in between super easy. Enjoy. Any problems. Shout.

Zone 2: Easy

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Only managed 38 mins,. partly cos of what you mentioned in last feedback – think Sunday was a tad quick for an easy session
You’ve summed it up perfectly. When anyone asks what the key benefit of doing Z2 stuff easy? It’s so you can then do more of it. As you’ve found out here, if you push too hard in the easy runs, you then can’t quite get so much done. Same applies to threshold too and why that’s becoming more popular that speedwork. You can just do more volume without burning out. Still, 38 mins is better than 35 mins.

If on a calm day and a flat stretch, focus on pace. If the loop or route has elevation or windy conditions, hitting the right heart rate makes this similar to a threshold session. But the aim here is to practice 10k target pace ahead of an upcoming race.

Really enjoyed this session. Perhaps pushed a few of the 1kms a tad hard but felt I could do 10km in under 40 right now, which I’d be pleased with here
Yeah love the splits and it’s quality session. I do feel (if we carry on, post Bogota) you’d benefit from switching to heart rate training, and a session like this would be done to HR, staying under LT2. It’s still tough (done a few myself) but as the session progresses it actually doesn’t get much harder and we can hit some pretty big volume, 7-8km of work, rather than say 5-6km when doing shorter faster reps. But great session Ben.

No worries Ben, sensible to rest if you picked up a niggle.
