Last week of plan 1. Really hope you are keen on a plan 2. Felt like we were making good progress until the hamstring got angry. A week off next week in between plans might be the perfect opportunity to get that rest and get you back healthy again. I’ve put a tempo session in this week, rather than efforts, just to reduce the demands on the hamstring. If it’s still troublesome then either stick to the easy runs or reduce the pace a little. Any issues let me know.

Zone 2: Easy

A chance to build your speed endurance. 10k pace is the target here. Ideal for runners who tend to do 10k races in 50 mins+

HR 140 for first easy ten mins @ 6’40” HR 163 for middle 30 mins @ 10km pace of 5’35”. HR in the 150’s for final 10 mins easy even though I dropped pace to 7′. Not sure why heart rate didn’t drop. Pace not as high as I’d expect for HR. Probably heat. [thanks for the feedback last week and encouragement. Defo up for plan 2. It’s just a bit untidy at the moment. Lots of travel and disrupted daily schedule.
The heat will make a big difference. So we had the HR in the right place for the tempo section, so a well executed session. You should find as the temp drops the pace will increase. Really pleased you want to stay on board. I had a conversation with another member of the team with lack of availability and I said what would happen if you weren’t on plan? And the answer was “probably stop running completely for a month, come back unfit, and have to start all over again”. So sometimes it’s not about progression but limited the loss of fitness during a tough spell. Then when things settle down you’re in a better place to attack again.

If some of the sets/reps are too demanding at first, just do what you can, you can always build up to 60s slowly. Wall sits and planks in particular can be tough, so just go to the point you feel you need to stop and repeat that time, even if it’s only 20s.

Didn’t do – work and world cup got in way. Thanks for feedback. Definitely helps to keep me dialled in.

Zone 2: Easy

Try and keep it easy. It all depends on your current level. If slowly adding time to your long run the last 10-20 mins might be tough. Focus on good form.

Stretches done. 87 mins. 13.7km. 42% zone 2, 56% zone 3. Running with map feature on watch so failed to monitor bpm closely. Felt good, but bpm too high.
On the plus side I can credit some bonus pts for working that bit harder, but yes ideally we would still be Zone 2. But well done on the extra mins as well.

Didn’t do – work, lack of will power and world cup got in way. Will pick up s&c again next week.
The hardest thing is getting started. Always worth remembering that. With my S&C I think of who and how I want to be/look in a few years time, and that’s why we do S&C, not for now, but our future selves.

Zone 2: Easy

Long runs are key. Fuel and hydrate well & join a group if you can.

Stretches done. 2hrs 13 mins. 19km. Really dialled back pace to try to keep in zone 2. On my Strava I have Zone 2 as up to 115bpm – 142bpm, based on max HR of 175bpm taken from my max bpm during faster 5k runs. Ended up showing as 65% in zone 2, 35% zone 3 (lower end). Good to do a long one. Need to get back to intervals to bring speed back up.
That pace should return as you get back into a more settled routine. But good to bank that time on feet and distance. An excellent week in the end and great to be getting back in the swing of things. Well done Matthew.
