2 key runs this week. Track and the long run Saturday which is there to have you primed for the Pier to Pier in 4 weeks time. This will be the longest run before the P2P. Track is quite soon after Poole parkrun so just bear that in mind if the hamstring is still an issue and perhaps take another day or two. With only one speed session this week you could easily move that to later in the week. Any issues let me know Steve. But let’s make this a strong week.

It all depends on the nature of the session as to how hard you want to work. The longer the reps, the slightly slower the pace will be. Or if doing hills, focus on RPE rather than pace. But you always want to be working hard to ensure you make the necessary gains.

*reps/seconds on both sides

A really good home workout for the core and legs. If new to this, don’t worry about hitting the seconds or reps. Do what you can and slowly build up to the targets.

For example you might find you can only hold a plank for 20 seconds at first, which is fine. Don’t push too hard that you get injured. You’ll soon get strong and be able to add more seconds.

If you have an accurate heart rate, then use that as your main data to determine pace, if not RPE is the best option. Hills are always going to cause them to go too high, unless you are super fit. Finish off with some strides.

The biggest mistake we can make with these recovery runs is running too fast. This will mean when our harder sessions come round we are still fatigued and not able to put enough effort in to make the necessary gains.

Keep the long runs at a low effort level. Obviously the longer the time wears on the harder the run will become. Make sure you hydrate and take fuel with you.
