I’ve moved things around due to the illness and the missed sessions. So Sunday is the last chance really to get a big session in before PW and ensure you are still fresh to attempt that sub 80 mins. I also realise we’ve not done hills for a while, so will be good to do a solid hill session. Any problems let me know. Keep up the great work Paul.
Biggest week since the marathon with 39 miles banked.
Feeling it if I’m honest but I’m managing. I know it’s hard just some days/weeks feel tougher than others.
Onwards upwards and lets give this 80min a good go
That was a big week and because of the last few, it was a bit of a jump up, but important to keep that 80 min target alive. It if were easy, everyone would have done it right? But very few have achieved what you have, because of your ability to dig deep and work hard. I’ll be honest, some days at the moment, getting out of the chair feels a struggle to me, but when I’m actually exercising I feel good. So I keep pushing and hopefully getting strong, just have to deal with the aches and pains of getting older too. Great work Paul
This session should last 40 minutes. Find a location where you can pick different points on the hill. Lamp posts are great. So for example you would run to the first lamppost and back to the bottom of the hill. Then to the second lamppost and back. Keep making the reps longer until you hit 20 mins, and then start making the reps shorter again.
So you might reach lamppost 12 in 20 mins, then next rep will be to lamppost 11, then 10, then 9 and so on, eventually returning to 1.
Use the downhill as your recovery. You should be working at an RPE of 8 up the hill, and a 3 downhill.
A tough session so important to pace yourself well. If you really want to make it challenge, push the pace downhill as well.
Keep that RPE down. You want to be able to run and chat, speaking of which, joining a group can add to the enjoyment here.
70 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
Keep the effort level down on these easy runs and focus on good running mechanics.
“Rest days are key. Our body adapts and gets stronger when we rest & recovery. Have a good one!”
1 Mile WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
3 Miles @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 6)
1 Mile @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
3 Miles @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 7)
1 Mile @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
3 Miles @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 8)
1 Mile CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
A big half marathon session. Important to find that goal pace in training and this session replicates the race well with the RPE increasing with each interval.
