I want to try something different Saturday. If you want to head to Eastbourne fine, but I’d like you to stay in Hastings and just treat it with a different mindset. We are not chasing a PB here, we want to try and run a specific target for each km. The best way to do this is have lap pace and current pace on your data screen. So the targets are 5:30 – 5:25 – 5:25-5:25 -5:15. It will depend on the weather staying fairly calm so if that changes I can tweak the targets. The first few should easy. Each time you hit the target or just under you get a point, if you are too fast (10 seconds or more, or too slow, 3 seconds over) I get the point. A little game, 5 opportunities to beat me. With each km it will get harder, but I think you want to try and reset mentally after each one, so once the previous km is gone, forget it, start again, one at a time. If you hate the idea of this, just say, it’s not essential but I think it could work. I’m liking to be down there myself as part of a long run so could run those splits if you want, so I wouldn’t be pacing you as such I’d be just behind, so you’d know if you stay just ahead of me you’re doing well.

A really good home workout for the core and legs. If new to this, don’t worry about hitting the seconds or reps. Do what you can and slowly build up to the targets.

For example you might find you can only hold a plank for 20 seconds at first, which is fine. Don’t push too hard that you get injured. You’ll soon get strong and be able to add more seconds.

Did it-niggly left leg have deep heated and crossed fingers and toes
Hmmm. yeah let’s keep an eye on that. We don’t need that right now. Well done on the S&C though.

A great 5k session to improve speed. Don’t got off too quick, so focus on your pace in those first few reps, then you’ll get an idea of how far you can run each rep. We want to be ahead of our current 5k pace though. From there you can then pick up the pace and cadence for the 1 minute reps.

That was hard but fun!
It is a big session that. But look at that pace. 4:32 per km. If you look at your dashboard zones that pace doesn’t even feature. You’ve broken your dashboard you were so quick 😂 Further evidence of just how well you are running right now. Awesome work Kirsty. I’m off to fix your dashboard now 🛠

It’s important to keep the easy runs easy. Focus on good running form and low heart rate. Don’t forget your strides. Very important. 30-60 seconds recovery between strides.

Solo TWR as had interview prep todo!!! Went and got intentionally lost in the park! Was much fun!
Some good stats, HR & RPE ideal. Good luck with the interview. Just to say I won’t be at parkrun tomorrow as having a week off running (had done 24 in a row, oops), but stick with the plan and imagine my voice in your head, 1 km at a time. You got this.

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Best run for ages. I had fun I felt great I kept eye on HR not pace! Runners high for the first time for ages🙌🏻🥰
It’s how I run now, only stat I have on my screen is HR, for the easy runs that is. Don’t care about pace. Although having done it for a few months now I’ve noticed my pace has dropped quite a bit, so it’s working. So pleased you enjoyed it and hopefully leave you feeling fresh for Saturday.

Running with others can reduce perceived effort so parkrun is a good option as an alternative speed session. 10 mins easy WU & CD please.

It was hot. Right…… I got past the but I always get in my head only to have a monent later-you’ll see on stats. I finished, I did it. And it was awful…….whys it so hot? 🤣
Another good attempt, especially in the warm conditions. Totally honest and this is more data driven than anything else, as clearly I wasn’t there to witness what happened, but the numbers suggest there’s more in the tank and that the head is just getting in the way a bit still. Which is ok. I’d rather have that knowledge that there is more, because it highlights the training is working. Sometimes we want things too badly. And I think if you can get out of your own way, and not actually care what time you run, but focus more on working as hard as you can for 5k, regardless of the result, I think you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve. It will happen, don’t force it, keep enjoying your running and training. Another strong week completed. Well done Kirsty.
