Big day Sunday!! Bring it on. If you can move your 50 mins Saturday to Thursday (seem to remember you saying Thursdays were busy?) that would give the legs a chance to be fresher. I’ve switched up Tuesday too to give you a threshold session rather than a more intense efforts. I think that is more beneficial for you based on what you are training for. Any issues let me know. But keep smashing it out of the park Joe. And of course if you want to talk pacing about Sunday drop me a DM.

Zone 2: Easy

Try and keep it easy. It all depends on your current level. If slowly adding time to your long run the last 10-20 mins might be tough. Focus on good form.

75 mins bike ride @ 159 BPM…something just kind of took over me and I felt the need for speed🤷🏻‍♂️😂. A bit later in the day, I then did the upper body part of Wednesday’s gym sesh. Straight after that I did 80 mins @ 134 BPM. Now I’m a bit tired 🤣🤣
A lot of points banked today. So well ahead of target. We probably want to ditch something now to make sure you are fresh for Sunday

Zone 2: Easy

It’s important to keep the easy runs easy. Focus on good running form and low heart rate.

As I said on Strava, very pleased that you advised me to ease off, as I’d had a big day on Monday. Don’t worry though, I won’t be making it a habit doing a bike ride like that! Really looking forward to Pier to Pier…if the forecast remains the same, then we’ll have a tailwind
Nooooooooo…….wasn’t it used that jinxed the weather last year 🤦‍♂️😂 It might not have been to be fair. I know it makes no difference either. Me and Kev Blowers have this thing where we bet on golf and the minute we mention one of our players is doing well they bogey the next hole, honestly the number of times that has happened. Hopefully it’s not the same with you and weather 😂 Glad the switch up worked well.

Zone 2: Easy

A great form of cross trainer for us runners. Keep that heart rate in Zone 2. You might feel like RPE is higher, as it’s a tough exercise, but a good opportunity to really improve your aerobic engine without the heavy impact of running.

Legs completed, as I did upper body on Monday. No bent leg calf raises or hamstring curls. Used a couple of new machines, instead of squats and deadlifts. Will send a photo on WhatsApp. 149 floors climbed on stair-stepper, keeping it easy on the HR
Nice work Joe. Sounds like a solid workout. Sensible not to push too hard on the stairs given it’s race week.

Zone 2

The biggest mistake we can make with these recovery runs is running too fast. This will mean when our harder sessions come round we are still fatigued and not able to put enough effort in to make the necessary gains.

Easy 40 done. Feeling good for Sunday. Feeling nice and relaxed about it. I’ll be happy with anything under 2 hours, and given that I ran 2:02 last year that shouldn’t be a massive challenge. Realistically, I think I can be aiming for 7:10/15 a mile pace
Loving the positives vibes. I think last years time is a good one to base upon and obviously that sub 2 is a nice target to aim form. It’s a good distraction in what is ultimately not the main goal of this plan. So a good opportunity just to go out there, have a good crack, but not really be bothered by the outcome, regardless if it’s good or bad.

Zone 3: Steady

The Pier to Pier. What a race. Unless you are really pushing for a quick time, in which case, go hard early (need to be well trained for this strategy), my advice is slowly build the pace and work your way through the Zones. But you certainly don’t want to be quicker than half marathon pace until late in the race.

Bloody hell…how did I maintain an average HR of 180 for close to 2 hours. Should I even still be standing after that 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣. That’s probably one of the top 5 toughest races or runs I’ve ever completed, when you take into consideration the distance, pace and HR. It took a huge amount of mental strength to keep going at that pace from Bexhill seafront onwards, so I’m hoping that I can rely on that thought to keep me going, when things get tough in future races. All in all, very happy to have comfortably gone under 2 hours, which I never thought was possible just 2/3 years ago, and I’m not even really training for pace over that kind of distance. Started off way too fast…maybe one day I’ll learn not to🤦🏻‍♂️🤣
