Week Commencing: 20 July 2026

Big week. Hopefully all is ok. Individually none of the sessions are that big, so I’m confident you can smash it. Plus a recovery week coming up next week. Saturdays run fits in nicely with parkrun if you want to combine it. Keep those easy runs easy and do your thing in the gym. 130pts is big. Keep being awesome. Any problems let me know

60 Mins Run

8 x 100 Meter Strides

Zone 7: 3K

If you have an accurate heart rate, then use that as your main data to determine pace, if not RPE is the best option. Hills are always going to cause them to go too high, unless you are super fit. Finish off with some strides.

Legs were quite tired ๐Ÿฅฑ
I’m not surprised, but well done for ticking it off. Running on tired legs in training is good practice for that inevitable outcome on race days. I think as mentioned because we have the weekend booked off, this week might feel quite tiring and demanding, so if need be, don’t be scared to take an extra rest day.

A threshold session in disguise. So whilst your pace will be Zone 6: 5k, because the reps are so short, you should find your heart rate stays in Zone 5, and below your LT2 (if you have that data). You can choose to run this session specifically to HR if you prefer. If you start to struggle, increase recovery slightly.

Let me know if you can merge the two sessions you currently do into one and if you send me a screenshot of the exercises I can then add them to this page.

Oof that run was a tricky session. But I think I enjoyed it? I couldnโ€™t quite remember what heart rate I needed to achieve and my watch was all over the place in regard to pace but I tried to keep each lap at 1:55 ish. If I were to do it again in future I could perhaps put a target HR or pace on the workout ? Could barely hold myself together for the cool down ๐Ÿคฃ I enjoyed looking at the graphs on Strava though Arm session complete With no probs – went a little heavier on the old bench press ๐Ÿ’ช
Yeah ultimately the key to these sessions is staying below your lactate threshold from a HR point of view. A decent watch will be ok, but if really keen to pursue this type of training (not essential) an external HR monitor is recommended. Most likely for you looking at your HR zones I would predict 170 would be LT2. I’ve written than even before checking your HR stats for this session on Strava so I can then go an compare. Let’s head over there now and see……ok so yes, as the reps progressed we HR was climbing gradually, so you were probably more focused on pace, which given the session instructions was kind of right. But what that led to was likely working that bit too hard, meaning the session felt really tough. So I had a similar experience, by reps 8 or 9 I was hitting my LT2 before the end of the rep. So I dropped my pace, to ensure that didn’t happen. I really do think it’s a good way to train but you have to commit to trusting that HR data and using that to determine your pace, rather than the other way around. Any questions just ask. But really well done for working so hard, probably too hard in this case, so I’m going to give you some bonus pts.

Zone 2-3: Easy/Steady

Likely your heart rate will climb as you run up the hills, so don’t worry too much about drifting into Zone 3 for the hills, try and keep the rest in Zone 2.

Rest day was needed!
Agree. And always know this is an option. This is never a failed day, it’s strategic planning which long term will be more beneficial than slogging out 60 mins on the hills. Target adjusted.

Decent session with a mixture of Marathon pace and 10k. If you’re free Saturday mornings why not do the 10k section at your local parkrun. Running with others make it feel easier.

I really needed that! I feel like my fitness hasnโ€™t been too great since Romney Marsh and was worried I was regressing. But itโ€™s quite nice to see I did 10km faster during this run and felt like I had more left in the tank! Yeyyyyyy. Excited to now go party at my best friends wedding ๐Ÿ’’ ๐Ÿ‘ฐ ๐Ÿ’ƒ ๐Ÿชฉ
Yeah look at that 2nd 5k split. How good is that. Sub 50 10k pace. I think a nice reminder of how well you are running and quite exciting for the upcoming Barry Richards 10k. So pleased this went well and gave you that little confidence boost again. A 10k PB in training when the first 5k is MP is just showing off ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have a fantastic weekend ๐Ÿฅณ
