I managed an hour! That was definitely the limit for my leg, and I didn’t do much elevation… but it definitely lasted longer than on Sunday before starting to hurt… I’m not there yet, but heading in the right direction!

Did a few of the stretches in the morning. Just about to finish them off. The speed session was good fun, as I haven’t done one like that for a while, although it was very hard going! Great to see Ashley down there, which gave me a bit of added motivation and I wore my Metaspeeds, which have been locked away for 6 months, so it felt good to put those on.

27pts | 90 Mins Run

  • βœ… Completed
Probably the most disjointed run ever but it got done, got to club early did 20 mins then ran with our new 6pm slower paced group. Caught up with a friend so ran at a very chatty pace. Still had 20 mins to do so went back out bumped into the juniors ran with them and sorted out some club admin whilst they did their intervals and ran back to sort out all the equipment that I am taking for Thursdays race. Legs feel like tomorrows rest day is needed but have no concerns re the races. There are a few of us who are racing on Thursday and Sunday so there should be a few of us taking Thursdays race at a slightly below full 5k effort.

Rest Day

  • βœ… Completed
You made me smile reading β€˜ nice easy week please’, as if I’d do anything else πŸ˜†. I swam today as it was my day off, 55 mins, good pace ( partly because I upset someone and was embarrassed. So swam as fast as I could 🫣) but I will rest Friday ( always my tired day). Hope you are well and ready for Worthing. It was good to be back swimming and generally cross training, all running has taken its toll pain wise. Happy not to have any running next week ( other than the obvious) and just swim/ cycle.

EASY, comfortable run, nose breathing all the way without it feeling hard or forced. Didn’t need to breathe thru mouth at all. Apparently I was mostly in anaerobic zone… 😢 but, looking at cadence numbers are same so looks like cadence lock. My stupid twiggy wrists no doubt… Put strides off as ham still bit sore, will see how tomorrow goes and add them to another run (easy 70 seems about right) to make up.

Short Terms Goals

Short term goals:
– focus on some shorter / faster stuff to help increase pace and VO2 again
– Half Marathon in Sept 26

S&C
– I’d like to do 2 x upper sessions a week to incorporate these into the plan

Other thoughts
– we can incorporate other cross training (static bike and/or elliptical)
– I have much more free time in the next year πŸ™‚

Long Terms Goals

Long term running goals:
– secure a Boston Qualifying time (3h 50)
– run a 20m (something) ie <21 5k – run a 45m 10k – run a 1h 45m half

Short Terms Goals

Simon, suggest you read the long term goals first then come back to short term as I think we can adjust the short term goals to suit the long term goals…

So focus is long runs, (I’d like to do the amble, P2P, Bewl – away for R-H) but realise that I’m not good in the hot hot weather… so happy to include those as targets but see what’s it’s like (especially for P2P as there is hardly any shade).

I would be interested to see what I could do on a flat HM course… maybe Tonbridge in October (but it maybe too soon for BH?) and then again Paddock Wood in Feb/ March to test improvement (as prep for the marathon?)

Then put fun stuff in around it????

What do you think??

Long Terms Goals

Long term goals are easier…

1. I would like do do Beachy Head Marathon (October 2026) … for two reasons, one it feels like it’s a right of passage for runners around Hastings. I’ve compared it to BTM and it’s hillier and tougher and if I am going to it it would be good to have company – I know Sue Mann and Steph are doing it… Steph is quicker than me but Sue isn’t so I feel I could keep up with them and have company… We’ve also got the usual South Wales holiday booked the first week in November, so I would look to take 2/3 weeks off after BH before the next block…

2. Then I would like to do a road marathon to see what time I’m capable of … I think I will enter Brighton (to secure a place and it’s local – notice I didn’t say easy to get to and back!) but also try to enter Paris (how amazing would it be to run around those amazing landmarks!!) and the ballot for London (I can hope) and then run just one of those. Timings are about the same so should fit into a plan.

That’s likely to have scratched my marathon itch so….

Cross Training

Cycling

If I’m doing BH, I will need more quad focused exercises (my quads were shredded after the last hill) and as BH is hillier that’s a big area I need to focus on – so exercises for going both up and down hills. Cycling – happy to have as an option… I have a bike but haven’t been out on it in a while so would need to build up gradually… also a bit of a fair weather cyclist…. Running 3 per weeks fine. With 1/2 S&C. No preference on hours per week as it’ll generally be driven by the plan…

Upcoming Races

None booked so far….
