Monday track sessions is a good one and again a chance to focus on a pace quicker than 5k speed. I’m planning on being there to run. Then we save the legs with a couple of easy(ish) midweek runs ahead of Sunday’s 5 miler race. I’m marshalling Sunday but likely beyond the turnaround point for your race, but hopefully see you beforehand. An good week with 2 hard run, 2 easy runs, perfect. Keep up the great work Shain.

Always a favourite with the team! Keep that first rep at 5k pace and then start to ramp up that speed. Enjoy!

Felt good throughout again. Timings were messed up a bit but still enjoyable nonetheless. Happy with how things went.
Yeah sorry for the confusion on my part as well. They told me last week it was going to be the ramp up session and then they offered us a choice, the longer session I felt was better for you, hence the change. But very impressive how easy you glided past us.

Zone 2-3: Easy/Steady

Likely your heart rate will climb as you run up the hills, so don’t worry too much about drifting into Zone 3 for the hills, try and keep the rest in Zone 2.

Did not complete this as was feeling relative tight in the lower thigh and was absolutely shattered and fell asleep around 7pm.
No worries. I think with the addition park run last week we didn’t get that rest we needed, so this was sensible to take the day off.

8 x 100 Meter Strides

Zone 7: 3K

If you have an accurate heart rate, then use that as your main data to determine pace, if not RPE is the best option. Hills are always going to cause them to go too high, unless you are super fit. Finish off with some strides.

Very enjoyable run today and the body feels spot on again!!. Feeling really excited for Sunday now and can’t wait to see what happens. Got a lot of sleep the last two nights so recovery should be a lot better.
Really pleased to hear that and a good lesson this week in not to force it when the body needs extra recovery. A lesson I need to apply today myself. Roll on Sunday!!

Zone 2: Easy

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race. Pace should be right at the top of your Zone 5, 10k target. Towards the end you’ll be working in Zone 6 though from an RPE and heart rate perspective.

Really nice race today. Gutted to miss out on a podium yet again but the time will come. 4th Mike is the one that done me in as I didn’t have the legs to get up it. Other than that I am very happy with the time and a 4 minute course pb
You have so much potential I wouldn’t worry too much about where you’re at right now in terms of finishing positions, if we are smart with the training you’ll only get better from this point onwards. I know what you mean about that hill, not many tougher than that. But again loads of positives to take from another excellent run. Well done Shain.
