Big week. I really like the Tuesday session, that 2nd 8 min rep feels exactly like the last 2km of a tough parkrun. So perfect practice for Saturday and attempting a quick one. Those sessions are complimented with the easy miles, strength work, S&C and stretching. So much good work in here this week. Keep smashing it and any problems just shout.

A really good home workout for the core and legs. If new to this, don’t worry about hitting the seconds or reps. Do what you can and slowly build up to the targets.

For example you might find you can only hold a plank for 20 seconds at first, which is fine. Don’t push too hard that you get injured. You’ll soon get strong and be able to add more seconds.

Zone 2: Easy

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Switched to my easy 60 mins as couldnโ€™t get out in the morning.
Was hot & kept it slow but was tough to go slow enough to keep the heart rate in easy.
It’s tough in that heat, well done for slowing it down though. HR shows how much harder it is when it’s this warm. Well done though James.

*Recoveries: 30 Seconds after the 30 second reps, 60 seconds after the 60 second reps. Simples.

Coach Simon๐ŸŠ “Make a note of RPM & the resistance level so you can increase them as you do more sessions.” Recoveries in between intervals are the same as the effort. So 30 and 60 seconds easy pace.

Peloton class completed.
Worked hard for 45 mins, was tough in the heat & peaked heart rate at the end.
One thing I have a relay race on Saturday so will do that rather than parkrun, but the race is only 2.5 miles rather than 5k. It is at 2pm so will be tough in the heat. Will do a full warm up & strides.
Great job James, no worries about Saturday. Perhaps an extra 5-10 mins WU will make up the difference, but given the heat it’s going to be fairly similar to doing a parkrun, so I wouldn’t worry, and nice to do something different and join in with a team. I hope it goes well.

Recoveries: Take 2-3 mins after the 8 min rep and 60s in between the 60 second reps.

A tough 5k session and the challenge is to see if you can hold your 5k pace in the 2nd 8 min rep when the legs are tired and you’re feeling fatigued.

Very good session that went by quicker than I expected. The 60 seconds ones were suprisingly difficult. Was hit this morning but got through it.

The second 8 mins was holding on a bit towards the end but kept hold of the pace as my heart rate increased.

Strength workout completed. Felt good even after intervals
Great work James. I’m crediting the pts too for strength, so will assume that was done? In terms of the session, year really well executed. Looking at the stats we are still only in Zone 5 of heart rate, I appreciate it’s warm right now which makes it harder, but if anything, perhaps there’s a little more in the tank. That’s a not a criticism by the way, just an observation and if anything a good thing, because I think there’s the potential to get faster. If you were in Z7 HR at the end at that pace then we’d know there was not more room to work with.

parkrun is the best!!! Every Saturday at 9am. A great opportunity to push our effort levels and run alongside other people. Make sure you get there nice and early for your WU & Strides. I normally aim for 8:15 to give myself plenty of time.

Race done, was a tough 4km in the heat but was happy with the time of 17:09.
Last km was hard work & had to dig in for the up hill finish.
Heart rate data in Strava is rubbish, sometime doesn’t connect properly if waiting to start the run for a while.
Have got heart rate data from my other wearable
Did an extra 5 mins in the warm up before strides, plus cool down
Pace: 4:19
Heart Rate: 178
Max Rate: 188
RPE: 9
Like it, clearly working hard and thanks for doing the extra 10 mins as well. Always nice to take part in a race like this. Top work James.

Long runs are key. Fuel and hydrate well & join a group if you can.

Run is in 2 parts on Strava as watch had a funny 5 mins.
Run felt food for most of it, last 20 mins had to dig in as was getting hot & difficult after watching football & up early for run.
Legs felt good & still good after the run.
Was pleased with pace & heart rate.
Really strong run in those conditions. Especially if coming in off slightly less sleep. Stats all in a good place which is pleasing. Another strong week in the training vault. Top work James.
