Keep being patient. The improvement will happen. It normally happens in one big jump. You might got 8-10 weeks where your parkrun stays the same then all of a sudden you knock 30 seconds off. The metronome is a great way to increase that speed though if you want to force it. I’ll be using my metronome in 2 of my 3 runs this week. If we hit everything this week it’s likely to be the biggest one yet in terms of pts. Keep up the great work Shana.

“Rest days are key. Our body adapts and gets stronger when we rest & recovery. Have a good one!”

Did over 10 mins of skipping as it was a bit stop start due to space, level of patio and skipping may not being great! Managed to get a good rhythm in the end and kept going! Did the three exercises- wall squats, calf raises and squats. Actually enjoyed it although I prefer skipping in the sensory room at the gym with a mirror and level floor!!
Love this, awesome work on getting this done. I’ll credit the points to last week. Shows there’s always a way if you have a bad day. And sometimes it doesn’t take too much. Glad you enjoyed it too.

A good session to start off with your 5k pace and then pick up the speed as we move into the shorter reps. See if you can finish with your fastest lap in that final rep!!

Well that was a hot one!! Not helped by the smell that made me stop last 5min rep. It did hamper my pace for the rest of the session along with how hot it was. RPE 7/8 not quite sure how I felt I was running faster but my pace was a lot slower? Maybe the heat? Maybe my watch? I do now try to think of my effort for the session. To be honest I didn’t give this session a consistent 100 percent and did allow myself to stop or drop the pace in places. But I got out! And got it done!
The heat does make running a lot more difficult, so sometimes it is just about showing up and ticking it off. We can’t be on top form all the time. In terms of effort, in those tough moments, going forward, it’s about understanding that’s when it matters. If we want to make gains, improve our times, those are the moments we have to keep working at the top level. It’s hard, it hurts, it’s not much fun, but it’s how we improve. And it feels bloody great afterwards. And the more you do it, the more self belief it gives you. The mindset I use and try and talk about at efforts, is to see it as the opportunity. Our speed work is our 1 real big opportunity that week to improve our 5k time, so it’s important we take it. That’s not a criticism of this session, as I realise the heat plays such a big part, but see it more as encouragement going forward. In the grand scheme of things a few minutes of really hard work each week is worth it to see those gains. I say “few” because if you do a 5 min rep, generally the first 2-3 won’t be too bad, it’s the last 2 you really had to dig deep. I believe going forward you can take those opportunities and keep improving 🧡💪

If you have accurate heart rate data that is far and away the best guide for this run. Stay in Zone 2 if you can.

Ah! Forgot to do stretches!!! I’ll do them Thursday. Club run was a hot one! RPE definitely 3! I wasn’t out to win Wednesday, I was building an engine albeit a tiny one operated by a wound up elastic band and two cotton reels! Krista and I found an injured pigeon on Payton Road so walked it to Silverhill to find a box in the Halal shop (totally don’t agree with Halal but have wanted to pop in and see what vegan things they have – looked amazing and may drop in for some dates- I digress!) we ran walked the boxed pigeon back to Horntye for Krista to drive it to Mallydams before they shut.
Sounds eventful 😂 Your pigeon pic will be making an appearance in my new weekly Team Orange reel which I will post Monday. Well done for your good deed.

Much more productive in Shana’s gym today! Actually enjoyed it! The bent knee calf raise feels a bit awkward. I used 10kg on the squats and split squats I used 5kg. 5kg on the glute bridge.

A great form of cross trainer for us runners. Keep that heart rate in Zone 2. You might feel like RPE is higher, as it’s a tough exercise, but a good opportunity to really improve your aerobic engine without the heavy impact of running.
